'Obamacam,' surveillance drones attend #StopWatchingUs march [photos]

Edward Snowden obviously wasn’t present at today’s #StopWatchingUs march on Washington, but his name and face appeared nearly everywhere as citizens protested NSA surveillance.

It turned out to be a bipartisan event, with former Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich followed on the microphone by Republican Rep. Justin Amash, speaking against the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA).

The Amash-Conyers amendment to the annual defense appropriations bill, which would have restricted the NSA’s ability to spy on individuals not suspected of terrorist activity, was narrowly defeated in July by a vote of 205-217.

As with any rally, it was the signs that told the story, and President Obama was anything but immune from criticism.

Today is the 12th anniversary of the signing of the USA Patriot Act. StopWatching.us calls itself “a coalition of more than 100 public advocacy organizations and companies from across the political spectrum” that came together in July 2013 after revelations of the NSA’s surveillance program.
