Failure is not an option … when writing a headline about President Obama. Politico led the way recently when a headline noting “poor attendance” at an OFA Obamacare event (one person, to be precise) suddenly became, “Obamacare message war goes local.” One person? That’s really local.
The New York Times certainly isn’t above carrying water for the administration, so it didn’t seem likely that the relatively harsh (but entirely accurate) headline, “Obama Fails in Bid for Wide Backing for Syria Attack,” would have a very long shelf life. Will Antonin called it Friday night.
Yeah, that’s no good. It makes it sound like Obama failed at something.

Getting warmer, but how about meeting halfway and going with, “Obama Falls Short on Wider Backing for Syria Attack.”
