Is there no end to the #NBCFail? David Gregory is being panned from both sides for his “Meet the Press”-style moderation at tonight’s debate between Mass. Sen. Scott Brown and challenger Elizabeth Warren. In fact, even the word “debate” is up for debate, as Gregory sat down with the two candidates for what he hoped would be a “healthy, cordial exchange.”

The Sunday-morning chat show format left Gregory to do a lot of the talking and even more interrupting.
I have NEVER seen any moderator insert himself into the debate to the extent @DavidGregory has. He needs to go to Fox News.

Oh. So, you just discovered that David Gregory performs his job inadequately and is somewhat contemptible? Guess you sleep in on Sundays?

Can't believe David Gregory is moderating this Warren-Brown debate. What a disaster #masen
— Ari Berman (@AriBerman) October 1, 2012
Gregory kicked off the night with a question about Warren’s supposed Native American heritage — the same topic which began the previous #MASEN debate — and asked if Brown’s use of “professor” in referring to Warren was meant as disparaging.
Hey David Gregory, how about asking what Brown and Warren would do for Massachusetts? This is pathetic. #ModeratorFail #MASenDebate

I think David Gregory was allowed to prepare for the Boston Herald debate by only looking at Boston Herald front pages. #masendebate

Gregory’s performance was so off-putting that even Warren supporters swore that the NBC hack was batting for the Republican.

People who hate @DavidGregory for clearly favoring Brown should remember that they should also hate him for being a terrible journalist.

Was David Gregory moderating a debate or rehearsing for a Fox News gig?

@SteveHuff "Dufus" is too mild. he was an asshole sexist pig. Strong language but that's my verdict
— zizi2 (@zizii2) October 1, 2012
Any idea of GOP bias wasn’t helped when Gregory mistakenly referred to “President Romney.”
David Gregory slips up and says "President Romney" Oops. Does he have crystal ball? #masendebate
— Erin Smith (@SmithReports) October 1, 2012
@DavidGregory "accidentally" refers to Romney as "President Romney" in asking a debate question to a Rep. debate participant. #PartisanSlip?

Conservatives, on the other hand, saw a debate between Brown and a tag-team of Gregory and Warren.

So how's the Scott Brown – David Gregory debate going?
— David Burge (@iowahawkblog) October 1, 2012
Scott Brown is doing a good job debating Elizabeth Warren and David Gregory.

So is David Gregory debating on behalf of Warren or is she going to play a part in this debate too?

I enjoy how @davidgregory interrupts and contradicts Brown every third word but lets Warren speak uninterrupted for 3 minutes.

Crowd applauds @davidgregory's yeoman work for the DNC. The pattern is he badgers Brown, lets Warren tout her talking points uninterrupted

has @davidgregory given elizabeth warren a foot massage yet? #masen
— Ryan (@chasinghumility) October 1, 2012
While managing to avoid state politics almost completely, Gregory concluded by asking each candidate to say something nice about the other, a closing which left viewers with not much nice to say about the moderator.

More witty debate commentary: “@foxjust: I think David Gregory just lost that debate. #MASenate”

David Gregory should never be allowed to moderate a debate-EVER.
