Stephanie Cutter's free pass from media extends to Anderson Cooper 360

Immediately after a confrontational interview with Virginia House of Delegates member Barbara Comstock regarding Medicare during which she referred on air to opposition research, CNN’s Soledad O’Brien, guest hosting Anderson Cooper 360, aired a taped interview with Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter. This interview was, you might say, a bit friendlier.

For a show dedicated to “keeping them honest,”  it would have been a perfect opportunity for O’Brien to make up for the journalistic lapse left by  CBS’ Nancy Cordes, who failed to ask Cutter during her appearance on “Face the Nation” about her familiarity with Joe Soptic, the man who appears in the Priorities USA ad linking Mitt Romney to his wife’s cancer death.

O’Brien and Cutter did find the time to talk about Paul Ryan, with Cutter calling Ryan’s plan the end of Medicare.

So, just how long does the media’s free pass on the Cutter/Soptic story last? And did we ever think we’d miss the objectivity and professionalism of Anderson Cooper?
