Christopher Rufo has done a fantastic job posting screenshots of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) training, mostly from public schools but often meant for teachers so they can integrate things like critical race theory and academic queer theory into their classrooms.
On his way out the door, President Donald Trump ordered all funding pulled from government agencies that were paying for seminars on critical race theory. Of course, that was reversed the second Joe Biden got his hands on a pen. Nevertheless, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is pulling funding for DEI departments from Florida public universities.
Biblical studies professor Doug Ponder shared a shot of a page from a friend’s DEI training. Earth is going to blow up tomorrow, and you can only fit eight of 12 people on your escape rocket. Whom do you choose to save? The accountant with the substance abuse problem? The accountant’s pregnant wife? A 21-year-old female Muslim international student? A 60-year-old Jewish university administrator? The racist armed police officer who has been accused of using excessive force?

It’s just a lesson in privilege: You learn about your white privilege by leaving behind the Native American because she doesn’t speak English. Being white and having English as your first language is white privilege, the basis of all American institutions.

One of my classes in high school had a similar activity (but without the diversity box-checking), and I refused to participate. If a painfully shy teenager could stand up to it, adults should have the gumption to refuse to participate.

It’s a ridiculous scenario meant to reveal your hidden biases. It’s the same thing they do with privilege worksheets, in which public school students check off all of the characteristics they have that make them either privileged or oppressed. And companies and universities and government agencies pay thousands of dollars for this “training,” which will be forgotten in a day.
