Insider: Attack on Paul Pelosi inspires many hypocritical GOP election deniers to renounce violence

What happened to Business Insider and its spin-off, Politics Insider? They added a sheepish editor’s note this March to their 2013 spread, “39 Photos That Prove Vladimir Putin Is The Most Badass World Leader.” This May, they named and shamed the nine Republicans who voted against a bill to help poor families buy baby formula amid the ongoing shortage. And just last week, Insider asked 38 Republicans (and 0 Democrats) why they’re not more concerned about the growing anti-Semitism in their party (they did not seek comment from Rep. Ilhan Omar).

Insider doesn’t seem to think, as Joe Scarborough does, that the hammer attack on Paul Pelosi was actually an assassination attempt against Speaker Nancy Pelosi that went wrong. Insider does note, however, that the attack prompted Republicans, including many who defied the 2020 election results after Capitol rioters hunted Pelosi on January 6, to denounce political violence.

So what Erin Snodgrass and Warren Rojas are saying is that even Republicans who helped incite the rioters who wanted to kill Pelosi on January 6 are denouncing the attack on her husband. Many Republicans posted supportive messages online, stating that “violence is never acceptable,” “enough is enough,” and condemning  the “un-American” behavior.

Among those well-wishers were GOP lawmakers who supported overturning President Joe Biden’s lawful victory hours after MAGA fans menacingly chanted Pelosi’s name outside her office while rampaging the US Capitol, including Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, and Reps. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, Byron Donalds of Florida, Kat Cammack of Florida, Chuck Fleischmann of Tennessee, Debbie Lesko of Arizona, and Randy Weber of Texas.

Paul Pelosi’s alleged attacker was shouting “Where’s Nancy?,” according to reports, in an eerie call-back to the threats made by several rioters during the January 6 insurrection.

Pelosi was caught on camera saying she didn’t want President Trump to dare show his face at the Capitol: “I’m gonna punch him out, and I’m gonna go to jail and I’m gonna be happy,” she said.

What a polite way to say Sen. Ted Cruz is a hypocrite for wishing Paul Pelosi well after he cheered on rioters who were trying to hunt down and kill Nancy Pelosi.
