We’ve seen this take before from plenty of other progressives, but Ron Filipkowski really manages to cover a lot of ground in just one tweet. Everything the conservatives have been doing about public schools, including those domestic terrorists who showed up at school board meetings, wasn’t to make public schools better … it was all about pushing kids into homeschooling and religious schooling. And we all know what homeschooling is about — it’s about taking children out of the diverse, inclusive public schools and indoctrinating them with white supremacy. Earlier this year, MSNBC warned of the insidious racism behind the American religious right’s “obsession” with homeschooling.

I interview applicants for an Ivy, & by far the smartest, most knowledgeable & competent students are those who’ve been home-schooled. Granted, the pool of Ivy applicants is tiny compared w the gen pop of 18 yr olds, but it’s clear to me that home-school kids thrive.

I chose to homeschool during the pandemic because the schools were not prioritizing safety. This year I asked my kids if they wanted to return to public school and they declined. They learn more with me and I can provide individualized education. I'm a former teacher.

In 2020, one Harvard professor recommended a “presumptive ban” on homeschooling, saying it violated children’s rights and encouraged white supremacy.
It may be worth thinking about why so many families are happy to leave the public school system, @RonFilipkowski.
