VICE’s story is really about Facebook cooperating with law enforcement and handing over chats. What does it take to get this sort of data from Facebook? VICE adds some spice to the story by saying the chats were used to prosecute a mother and daughter in Nebraska for the crime of “abortion” (their scare quotes, not ours). We guess that’s why VICE put “abortion” in quotation marks —because that wasn’t the actual charge. But now there’s a panic over discussing abortion on Facebook chat — that’s the takeaway from this.
