Boredom probably isn’t what’s driving for most people the conversation about Friday night’s killing spree in Isla Vista, Calif., but it does have MSNBC analyst Jonathan Alter wondering if the mass shooting (and stabbing) will contribute to a new round of gun control discussions0.
Within minutes of the news breaking, some were already blaming the NRA for the deaths, so of course the killings will lead to revived demands for gun “safety.” But will the gun grabbers gain sufficient momentum after this latest shooting?

@jonathanalter In the public view it already has, but politicians won't touch it because of upcoming elections. Useless government we have.

— Jonathan Alter (@jonathanalter) May 26, 2014
@jonathanalter In a word, no. Lobbyists in control.
— David Perrett (@David_PerrettCO) May 26, 2014
@jonathanalter I don't think anything will kick off gun safety measures at this point, there have been too many shootings and no action.

@jonathanalter Never use "gun ban" either b/c that's NOT what we want despite RWNJs saying so.Gun safety means EDUCATION. Will RWers agree?

Recommended

@jonathanalter the NRA will stoke the gun safety chatter
— Jamie Lindsay (@JamieLindsay) May 26, 2014
@jonathanalter more safety chatter is better for "panic purchases" of all sorts of guns, just good business for NRA bosses the manufacturers
— Jamie Lindsay (@JamieLindsay) May 26, 2014
@jonathanalter If this doesn't shame some people, @NRA etc, then what will, it's heartbreaking.http://t.co/Xig7N2HYKo
