The Associated Press could have saved itself and the rest of us a lot of time by just retweeting Geraldo Rivera and calling it a day. There’s certainly no need to fret for paragraphs over the propriety of the term “illegal” — no one’s going to dare use it now that Geraldo has declared it “un-hip.” Real journalists would rather be caught sporting a ’70s -vintage porn ‘stache on TV than appear un-hip.

@GeraldoRivera they are undocumented because they broke our immigration laws to get here, which is illegal.

@GeraldoRivera let's go over this again. If a person enters this country by breaking the law, they are criminal illegal immigrants

@GeraldoRivera You contrived that assertion. They came illegally, and illegally exist here, hence the word "Illegal". #BadLawyer

Oh, Geraldo’s not a lawyer, though he tweets like one sometimes. It was just a year ago that Geraldo declared the term “illegal alien” wasn’t a racial slur. Is he evolving in preparation for that senate run?

Correction: Geraldo Rivera is indeed a lawyer, registered in the State of New York. We regret the error.
