The White House seemed to evolve quickly today in its stance on gun control in light of the shooting in Newtown, Conn. Soon after spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that today is not the day to debate gun control legislation, President Obama emerged to call for unspecified but “meaningful action.”
The New York Times’ Andrew Rosenthal showed similar restraint in not politicizing the tragedy, at least not immediately. The Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto took notice.
Three hours later, after New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg demanded immediate action on gun control (likely in response to Obama’s restraint), the Times editor followed suit.
We missed this last night, but Ace of Spades also called out Rosenthal on his blog.
As with so many Ace posts, the headline is a work of art. Don’t miss it.
