Chicago didn’t seem to need Twitter’s help when it wanted to keep a dangerous Chick-fil-A location off of the city’s streets, but with gunshot deaths numbering in the hundreds, the city could use a little help getting gun violence under control. As part of Chicago Ideas Week, the city is soliciting ideas from Twitter.
Using the hashtag #WhatIfChicago, residents are asked to submit their ideas on how to get illegal guns off the streets. The bad news: you’re limited to 140 characters. The good news: that’s more than the city seems to have come up with.
Chicago gun crime is up. Murder too. Problem affects all. Send your ideas to get illegal guns off streets. Use hashtag–> #WhatIfChicago

Russell Simmons is on board, but while he meditates on the problem, others are offering up a different take.
Illegal guns? Criminals break laws. What about the rest of us law abiding sitting ducks? #ThrowSpaghettiAtThem #WhatIfChicago

#whatifchicago said Guns aren't the problem. The criminals are and let law abiding citizens open carry firearms. Less crime guaranteed.

#whatifchicago made it easier for law abiding citizens to carry guns? Crime would drop drastically.

#WhatIfChicago Respected the 2nd Amendment and realized guns aren't causing homicides & places with less gun regulation have less homicide?

Ideas Week organizers say the best submissions will be debated during a panel discussion in October.
