My three boys attend, or in the case of my eldest, who graduated in June, attended Catholic school. I moved them out of the public school system during COVID and have zero regrets about it.
That's why Wednesday's horrifying shooting in Minneapolis, at the Annunciation Catholic Church and school, hit closer to home for me. And -- today alone -- I've written four stories related to radical Leftist violence, including the Wisconsin public school that kept families in the dark about a 'trans' student's thwarted mass shooting plan, the Reddit Leftist who wants more shootings at Catholic schools and Christian churches in the name of getting gun control passed, the crazed Leftist man who is happy an eight- and ten-year-old are dead, and the socialist gun org training Leftists to kill their political opponents.
It's a scary time to be a Catholic parent in America.
As they always do, Democrats have decided the problem is me and my guns, and they're calling for national gun bans. Ilhan Omar said it's necessary so people don't take weapons to gun-control havens like Minnesota, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says 'assault weapons' should be banned. You'll not be shocked to learn he can't define what an 'assault weapon' is or how they work, but he knows he wants to ban them, anyway.
I, on the other hand, believe in the Second Amendment, and I believe my political opponents when they say they want to kill me and my children. They will never get my guns, which were lost in a tragic boating accident, anyway.
The approximately 137 million gun owners in America probably agree with me, and I like our odds.
All that being said, it would be a little easier for the Democrats to sell their gun-control agenda if they actually enforced the gun laws that were already on the books.
But they do not, and the most recent example of that is playing out in St. Louis, Missouri.

Follow the logic of the Left here: guns are bad, and we must ban law-abiding citizens from owning guns in the name of safety. But we must also let a violent criminal out of prison on a measly $5,000 bond after he shot and killed a police officer, because that's 'justice' and 'equity.'
If that makes your head hurt, don't feel too bad. It gave me a migraine, too.
As my colleague Grateful Calvin pointed out here, this is a dangerous time. The Left is a wounded animal seeing its ideology dying on the vine, and it's lashing out and is more violent now than it's ever been. They are on the losing side of every major issue -- from illegal immigration to 'trans rights' to gun control -- and they know it. Instead of stopping to engage in a few moments of introspection, they've decided to amp up the crazy. They're sneering at people for praying, attacking the Constitution, and further driving their approval ratings into the gutter.
On top of it all, they continue to take a soft-on-crime approach to crime and gun violence (another issue they're on the losing side of). If Democrats were serious about stopping gun crime, guys like Demond Taylor would be behind bars awaiting trial instead of out on the streets where he can kill another innocent police officer just doing his job. Taylor is not the outlier here, either. In many blue cities and blue states, violent career criminals -- including those with prior gun charges -- are released back into society to continue harming innocent people.
And while the Democratic Party's radical base applauds acts of violence against Catholic schoolchildren and demands even more violence in service of their gun control agenda, Democrats turn around and demand that women like me turn over my guns -- which are sitting in my bedroom closet harming no one -- in the name of 'safety' and 'stopping gun violence.' To the Democrats, Demond Taylor is the good guy, and I'm the child-killer.
They do this with a straight face, too, failing to see the blatant hypocrisy that's so obvious to the rest of us.
