Yesterday, 31-year-old Elias Bermudez-Vasquez was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment for attempted unlawful export of ammunition, according to a news release from the Attorney’s Office. Last month, Emmanuel Bermudez-Vasquez, 27, and Charice Chauntel Gaede, 27, were sentenced to 50 months and 46 months in prison, respectively.
Some time before May, 2010, the defendants purchased over 100,000 rounds of ammunition and accepted several large shipments of ammo, according to the release. On June 3, 2010, Elias and Emmanuel Bermudez-Vasquez drove a vehicle containing 9,500 rounds of ammo to the Tucson Mall and left it parked. It was then picked up by another person who drive it to the Nogales Port of Entry.
