Slowly but surely, CNN is catching on to what we’ve known for years: that maybe Obamacare isn’t such a good idea after all. Now, one of CNN’s investigative reporters has uncovered who’s responsible for making the ACA the law of the land:

Well, took him long enough.

Not exactly “breaking” to us. But hey, at least CNN’s willing to acknowledge that, yes, this is the Democrats’ fault:

Senate Democrats voted unanimously three years ago to support the Obamacare rule that is largely responsible for some of the health insurance cancellation letters that are going out.

In September 2010, Senate Republicans brought a resolution to the floor to block implementation of the grandfather rule, warning that it would result in canceled policies and violate President Barack Obama’s promise that people could keep their insurance if they liked it.

And guess what: The Republicans were right all along!

As Frates mentions in his report, Sens. Landrieu, Pryor, Hagan, and Begich also voted for Obamacare and are now calling for portions of the law to be delayed.

That’s one way to put it. Another way: The Democrats lied.

Bingo.

We imagine Eric Boehlert is foaming at the mouth right about now, seeing CNN acknowledge that (a) people are indeed losing their coverage thanks to Obamacare, and (b) that the Democrats are responsible. Talking Points Memo’s Josh Marshall must be beside himself, too:

That “reality,” according to TPM, is that Obamacare is doing Americans a favor by forcing insurance companies to cancel their plans. Because the current plans don’t meet Obamacare’s high standards or something. Bull. The real reality is that with each passing day, more and more Americans are getting screwed by a law that Obama and the Democrats sold as a veritable life-saver.

The Dems own this mess.

one of the spins that the (D)-bags are using is that much of the legislation was actually written by the healthcare industry…the (D)-bags should have known better than to trust these insurers of evil.

and as they were able to find an IRS employee in Cincy who was a conservative, they will also find conservatives who work in the health care industry and worked on the bill.. maybe a receptionist, maybe a janitor who had a lot of influence on the regulations.

    • http://amandakmelson.wordpress.com/ GreenEyedGal

They are! Here’s a comment on the CNN article from “AZ Girl”:

“Ok so let me get this right… There was a rule that grandfathered plans as long as the plans weren’t changed but if a plan was changed it would lose its status and thus could not be used. Is that right? So the insurance companies who knew this then changed their plans (I can only assume the plans that have been in effect the longest and carry older, longer term customers at cheaper rates) so they lost the status and had to be cancelled. Wow, way to drop a lot of risk legally. And you say it like its the democrats fault instead of the insurance companies”

If all these canceled policies were substandard, or, as Obama claimed, simply bait to trap people into medical bankruptcy, why are so many people upset that they are losing them? And why are those people so upset that they’re being forced to buy these supposedly better policies?

It would be one thing if millions of people were losing policies that were, for example, the equivalent of a car with defective brakes, bald tires, and gas tanks with explosive devices attached.

But what Obamacare does is like forcing people who are driving a five-year-old Honda Civic into a new Lexus ES350 because the Honda doesn’t have leather seats, a rearview camera, Bluetooth navigation, and a low tire pressure dashboard warning light.

    It’s not Republican ANYTHING.

    This bastard bill was:

    1. Created by Democrats.
    2. Sold by Democrats
    3. Democrats BLOCKED Republicans from input on the original bill.
    4. Democrats BLOCKED Republicans from changing the bill after it was passed.
    5. Democrats told us that they would not raise taxes on anyone making less than 250k per year.
    6. Democrats then went to the Supreme Court and argued that the ACA was a TAX and won, because the law allows Congress to raise taxes.
    7. Democrats said that the Republicans blocked THEM but in fact it was absolultely positively the other way around.
    8. Tea party people yelled Hell NO against this bill, and then were demonized for it. Called every name in the book.
    9. Republicans tried to kill the bill over and over. Denied.
    10. Republicans then tried to at least delay the ramifications for one year. Denied.

    …and now?

Uh, the news story is that Democrats supported this aspect of the law? Nice start. The Democrats created this ENTIRE SITUATION. There was no healthcare ‘crisis’ prior to the creation and passage of this bill. There were people who needed coverage. A much smaller bill could have been created thereby absorbing the uninsured into Medicaid. Nope that wasn’t good enough. The goal was to fundamentally change the healthcare system in this country and they did it.

    Own it.

That is a fair question … but you have to wonder if maybe some of the boys and girls of the press corps have been told by management at CNN to get rid of the Obama Pullups, put on their big girl panties and big boy boxers and actually start acting as the conscience of the Nation, rather than the lapdog of the Fascist Progressive movement.

There comes a point in time when everyone is forced to grow up. For some people its the birth of their first child, for other people its the first time they hear the words “FOLLOW ME!” shouted as bullets zing past and mortar rounds fall, for others it is when they are threatened with no job and bills to pay in an industry that doesn’t have a lot of options for the non-celebs.

      Additional thought:

On the other hand, they might be making the dreaded “MAK MAK MAK MAK!” cry of a Martian holding their helmet or head when exposed to Yodeling Cowboy Music. The tears are reserved for transcribing the WH supplied talking points into the next broadcast or edition. I hear it is sort of a religious experience for them.

      :end edit:

Just another question, I don’t really know on this; only time will tell.

  • Todd Hill

A caller into Rush’s program made an interesting point today about Obama’s involvement in Obamacare. Obama has campaigned many times on behalf the ACA and made promises including “If you like your plan, you can keep it” and so forth. Because he was doing so, he was essentially marketing a product.

Because this product is being sold to the public, both federal plans as well as reselling any plans offered by private institutions, doesn’t it fall under the auspices of the federal government’s Federal Trade Commission? Obama’s pledge, now proven false, seems to be a clear example of “Deceptive Advertising,” and as such shouldn’t he be held accountable as other snake oil salesmen/women have been in the past?

I’m thinking that at this point what the PTBs need is a new
distraction to keep us from noticing how they’re destroying the nation
with DEBT. If skewering Obama will keep us occupied for plenty long
enough to complete the train wreck of America, they’re cool with that.

IMHO, Obama never owned the media. The PTBs did. And do. IOW, nothing changed. They’re still feeding us the Talking Points that someone higher up has decreed.

Clearly, I should be grateful for my more than 300% increased cost “transition”, after cancelling my current plan, according to @joshtpm and the Talking Points Memo article he linked.

Why isn’t this being talked about more? It should be screamed from the mountaintops and repeated ad nauseum everywhere, every Republican and conservative, every media outlet, every social networking site, every blog–the Dembeciles need to be wearing this thing and the people of America who support them should be hearing it non-stop until they get it.

This is what happens when lamebrain like Pelosi decides to “pass the bill so we can read what is in it”. I doubt even today 90% of these people who helped to pass the O’care law have read what is in it, including “iknownothing-in-chief”. He is probably playing golf today, never mind the state of economy or the world for that matter, got to get that golf game in. In the mean time, please make sure the little people feels the pain.

Harry Reid is responsible for canceled health insurance plans. Let’s not beat around the Bush.
