In case you hadn’t heard, socialist senator and 2016 POTUS hopeful Bernie Sanders reporteldy held some pretty out-there notions about male and female sexuality back in 1972:
.@BernieSanders: "A woman enjoys intercourse with her man — as she fantasizes being raped by 3 men simultaneously." http://t.co/VDOJBkAmUA
— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) May 28, 2015
From the Media Research Center:
“A man goes home and masturbates his typical fantasy,” wrote Sanders. “A woman on her knees. A woman tied up. A woman abused.”
In terms of his understanding of female sexual fantasies, Sanders provided similar insight.
“A woman enjoys intercourse with her man–as she fantasizes about being raped by 3 men simultaneously.”

Now, granted, Sanders wrote this back in 1972, when he was just a young, 30-something whippersnapper. It’s entirely possible that he no longer holds these creepy views. But let’s face it: If a Republican politician — let alone a presidential candidate — had written something like that 40+ years ago, it’d be dominating the news cycle.
Instead, the media are ignoring it — or just giving it a pass:
has @jezebel or any of the usual suspects noted the @SenSanders gang-rape scoop, or will they be Pretending it away as usual?

.@voxdotcom,
Seems like @SenSanders' odd ideas of feminine perversity warrant a #Voxsplanation. Otherwise, how will we know what to think?— Ursus, Director of Weather and Banana Programming (@AceofSpadesHQ) May 28, 2015
Don't know if yall realize this but the seventies was a decade of really weird psychological theory and old sanders column wasn't atypical
— Zaid Jilani (@ZaidJilani) May 28, 2015
Oh, so Sanders was just a product of the freewheelin’ times in which he lived? Is that how it works?
But this, this was news:
Hey, that piece by Bernie Sanders was a long time ago so maybe…oh, right. pic.twitter.com/XWsRACLR59

Someone help me out here. Was this written before or after the now famous "Romney haircut" happened? http://t.co/maZ54QzGek
— RBe (@RBPundit) May 28, 2015
Just checked. The Romney Haircut Incident happened BEFORE Bernie Sanders (and adult) wrote this. http://t.co/maZ54QzGek
— RBe (@RBPundit) May 28, 2015
So, one would expect Sanders's comments here to get the same media attention as the Romney Haircut incident. http://t.co/maZ54QzGek
— RBe (@RBPundit) May 28, 2015
Or the Todd Akin incident. Remember him?
@redsteeze @benshapiro @BernieSanders Pretend Todd Akin said this.
— Jason (@jasonhsv) May 28, 2015
.@aseitzwald Also said women fantasize about rape. Weird how that's not getting coverage from the Todd Akin network.http://t.co/dQ4s5CyWOK
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) May 28, 2015
I don't care what sexual fantasies Bernie Sanders writes about but media fainted perpetually for 3 months over Todd Akin. That's the point

Can someone please tell me how this isn't worse than what Todd Akin said? Thanks in advance. http://t.co/maZ54QzGek

"Are you fucking kidding me?" – Todd Akin, somewhere today.
— eric (@eriContrarian) May 28, 2015
Media has a way of shutting Bernie Sanders rape fantasies down.
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) May 28, 2015
Their silence is deafening. Though, sadly, not surprising.
It’s not about what Sanders said, it’s about how the media would be all over Republicans if one of them had said it.
— RBe (@RBPundit) May 28, 2015
This. This right here. This SILENCE on Bernie Sanders's crazy theories is why I fucking hate the media.
— RBe (@RBPundit) May 28, 2015
Double standard much? You bet your boots.
You want to tell me media bias doesn't exist? Tell me more as we see the media ignore Bernie Sanders's PUBLISHED craziness.
— RBe (@RBPundit) May 28, 2015
One thing's for certain: if a lower tier GOP candidate had written that women fantasize about gang rape, we'd be treated to MSM sh*tstorm…
— Guy Benson (@guypbenson) May 28, 2015
…psychological studies wouldn't matter, the Outrage Circus would make it "emblematic," & every Republican would be grilled over it…
— Guy Benson (@guypbenson) May 28, 2015
…Days of columns and lower-thirds trumpeting "The GOP's Rape Problem…"
— Guy Benson (@guypbenson) May 28, 2015
…And the opportunity for demagoguery would be so juicy that Hillary Clinton might even deign to answer questions about it…
— Guy Benson (@guypbenson) May 28, 2015
Republican Presidential Candidate once said women fantasize about getting raped when having sex. http://t.co/maZ54QzGek #UniteBlue
— RBe (@RBPundit) May 28, 2015
Tell me that headline wouldn't be all over the fucking evening news tonight.
— RBe (@RBPundit) May 28, 2015
What’s it gonna take for the media to go after Sanders — and other Democrats — with the same zealous outrage they’re able to muster over Republicans?
https://twitter.com/Cameron_Gray/status/604018116906086401
Pathetic.

Update:
For what it’s worth, Jake Tapper covered the story this afternoon on “The Lead”:
.@BernieSanders wrote about rape fantasies in 1970s http://t.co/540e5TO3LG — @secupp @McMahonDEM react on #TheLead pic.twitter.com/2VJd9TdGbn
