As Twitchy told you, recently fired FBI employee Peter Strzok has apparently wasted no time parlaying his new unemployment into an opportunity to make a few hundred thousand bucks. According to his GoFundMe, the “proud husband and father” looking for at least $150,000 to help cover “legal costs and his lost income.” Poor guy.
Anyway, as of this post’s publication, he’s raised more than $31,000. Where’s that money coming from? Well, it’s coming from guys like Brookings Institution senior fellow Benjamin Wittes:
I just donated to this @gofundme:"Support for FBI Veteran Pete Strzok" I want to say a few words about why. https://t.co/oLhqEY6qxE
— Benjamin Wittes (@benjaminwittes) August 13, 2018
Oh, this should be good:
I do not approve of or defend what Strzok did, which was monumentally stupid for a very smart guy, and which caused huge problems for the FBI in two separate high profile investigations on which the integrity of the Bureau's work should have been beyond question.
— Benjamin Wittes (@benjaminwittes) August 13, 2018
That said, I don't believe that individual line agents at federal law enforcement agencies should be the subject of Twitter campaigns by the President of the United States.
— Benjamin Wittes (@benjaminwittes) August 13, 2018
I do believe that federal employees have the right to their private views.
— Benjamin Wittes (@benjaminwittes) August 13, 2018
I don't believe that Strzok's incredibly foolish decision to share those private views with another FBI employee on Bureau hardware amounts to a firing offense. I still don't fully understand what rule he is supposed to have violated.

Recommended
I believe that Strzok has served this country in a number of different capacities over a long period of time and that this fact deserved more consideration than it appears to have received in the final adjudication of his case.
— Benjamin Wittes (@benjaminwittes) August 13, 2018
I believe the recommendation of OPR for that appears to have been overturned thus warranted more deference than it received.
— Benjamin Wittes (@benjaminwittes) August 13, 2018
And I don't believe that the costs of running afoul of the President should be career ruin and personal bankruptcy.
— Benjamin Wittes (@benjaminwittes) August 13, 2018
For all these reasons, I believe Strzok deserves a defense.

Donated. Good luck Mr. Strozok. Thank you for your service.

I donated to this as well, for the reasons Ben writes in this thread and because when someone is targeted by a miserable, powerful bully, we shouldn't need to determine they are perfect or infallible to know the right thing is to stand up for them. https://t.co/QgJKvGgszv

Whatever you boneheads need to tell yourself to justify your decision to throw your money away.
"I do not approve of or defend what Strzok did…" but I'm going to, and I'm going to give him money and encourage other people to as well.
These leftists are nuts. He's a scumbag who cheated on his wife for a long time and damaged the reputation of the FBI. Cut and dry. https://t.co/GmHCnG5DMW— Derek Hunter (@derekahunter) August 13, 2018
And they're all sending him money. Unbelievable.
— CRobinS (@In2HotH2O) August 13, 2018
They’re very particular with their generosity.
I wonder how many leftists who've given to his GoFundMe page would never think to help a homeless person by buying them a sandwich? "That's what I pay taxes for!"
