The East Coast has been anticipating a monster ice storm all weekend. But as of late Sunday night, nothing big had materialized. Manti T’eo girlfriend jokes abounded:

While many students expected to go to school tomorrow, the federal government announced it was shutting down until noon:

Stay safe out there, East Coast readers!

if it hits, it will be proof of climate change….if it doesn’t hit, it will be proof of global warming

One of the (very, very few) downsides to home-school: no snow days. =P

we were traveling during the school year. the TSA agent asked my son about skipping school to vacation. “we homeschool”. tsa agent: oh, you take school with you.

    What ice storm?

Weather Underground has a high of 46 degrees tomorrow around Washington, DC. Plus an 80% chance of rain.

Hint #1: The “ice rain” is a misnomer – it’s liquid, cooled to the point where it freezes instantly once it hits something that allows it to crystallize.

Hint #2: The cooling process happens at some altitude, not at ground level.

If it looks like an ice storm could happen, it is common sense to prepare for its arrival. Even if it then turns out to be a misreading by the weather forecasters.

Somewhat similar to homeowners having insurance or guns, in case either is needed…

Yes, we got freezing rain. Yes, I’m glad they told us to stay off the roads. And yes, I made it into work a few hours late — road conditions were fine by 10 AM, but the trip from house to car would have been easier with hockey skates.
