Lovely. Another musician taking up performance time to spew his political beliefs.

Pearl Jam played a show at The National Bowl in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England Friday.  Lead singer Eddie Vedder went off on a crass anti-war rant seemingly aimed at Israel.

The political ranting begins at around 4:10 in the video.

Fark me. More CDs I gotta trash…..

    • waltzingmtilda

Pretend he doesn’t exist outside of his music. That’s what I’ve resorted to.

      • H50 ✓RAT

Nope, hes dead to me now.

        • DaMello ®

Just listen to Stone Temple Pilots. The are what Pearl Jam should have been.

          • Ms. Abigail van Beagle

I have yet to hear anything condescending or political out of Chris Isaak or ELO. They’re 2 of my go-to favorites.

          • NRPax

Heck, if you can find the Mother Love Bone collection, that would help as well.

          • Chris

            MLB is awesome

          • NRPax

Bought the compilation CD back when I was in college. Good stuff and better than anything Vedder could spew out.

          • bungopony

Just don’t try to make sense of the “lyrics”!

        • Utopia Can Never be Achieved

I was just thinking that artists should really keep their yaps shut. Just because they are on stage, they should focus on what they do best and not use an audience where people have paid $100 to $300 for tickets to attend. I could stay home and turn on the TV to get my fill of political trash.

Also, last night – I felt a stake get pounded in my chest. I was watching a video on YouTube – Warren Haynes, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks. A few minutes into the performance, I realized they were at the white house for the Red, White and Blues performance for Obama. I also saw Eric Holder sitting in the front row too. Kind of really wrecked the moment for me.

          • Texas_Freedom

            What a freakin’ let down.

      • annoyinglittletwerp

Elvis Costello is also a BDS’er. Pretty soon I’ll be stuck listening to only country and big band.

        • H50 ✓RAT

Swing, there is always swing. And surfer instrumentals……. give me a minute……opera…….

          • annoyinglittletwerp

            No Wagner.

          • H50 ✓RAT

            You got it Mister!

          • annoyinglittletwerp

            Ma’am. LoL. I’m a chick…I think.

          • Ryan Schneider.

Is satire of Wagner appropriate? There’s this English Lady, Ann Russell, who was an Opera singer turned musical satirist, and her breakdown of the shear ABSURDITY of the Ring of Nebulous had me gasping with laughing! Wagner couldn’t plot a coherent story to save his life, and seemed to have a disturbing obsession with incest.

          • asdadad

Thanks for this – I’m going to look up the parody now.

          • Brown Bear Mike

YouTube version of Dame Anna Russell’s talk on Wagner’s Ring Cycle:

Dead-on accurate, it’s the most lovingly skewered musical lampoon imaginable. You WILL be reduced, as were Dame Russell’s audiences, to helpless laughter.

“I’m NOT making this up, you know.”

          • Ms. Abigail van Beagle

Give me Pipeline, Walk Don’t Run and Perfidia any day over Vedder.
I’m glad my Mom let me play with her 45s as a kid. Lots of good stuff in there.

          • Tim David

“Mom let me play with her 45s as a kid…” I almost made an inappropriate sexual reference there. I’m proud of my self control.

          • asdadad

Listen to the Mermen. You’ll love them.

          • Donny Zunker

NO OPERA! Friends don’t let friends do opera….
But the surfer instrumentals are cool… big band is good… swing, too… and lots of jazz…

One thing I will give to dispensationalist metaphysics, is that it has helped a large portion of the protestant world community, and Christianity in general, to understand our proper relationship with religious Jews. The Bible Belt is the Dispensationalist capital of the world, and therefore very friendly to religious Jews. Texas is a fine place for Jews to live.

You could listen to Niel Young and Rolling stones. Only reason Niel’s concert has been cancelled is the recent unpleasantness from Hamas.

Neil Young is a raging leftist too.

Neil Young looks like Bill the Cat last couple of decades……

          • genes ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

He may be a leftist but he wasn’t giving in to BDS. I don’t care for him, but have to give him his props for that.

          • Humanary Stew

He has gone on a few antiwar rants. And the Living With War” albums would qualify as BDS.

        • Cindyn1210

Actually you have some of the classics like the Stones (amazing show in Tel Aviv!), both remaining Beatles are very pro-Israel and even the Pixies and Coldplay that had been boycotting Israel are now performing there. There are still plenty of options…

        • 12

Elvis Costello is garbage, I was a fan of Pearl Jams first few albums, but since then they have put out nothing but garbage, there is still alot of music not of losers who are looking to get on the anti-Israel bandwagon because it is cool and they want to be rebellious

      • President Failure

    • The Marathon Man

Mine went in the trash years ago. Vedder has never been shy about his lefty beliefs.

    • Pearl Forrester

There are much better grunge bands you can listen to honestly. Try “Silverchair.” They are an often forgotten Aussie band that hit big here in the late 90s. Because they started in their teens, they were often called “Nirvana in pajamas.” Also, just so you know. Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins is quite the libertarian. I believe he subscribes to some Alex Jones beliefs (depending on how you feel about that) but I find it quite refreshing when ANY entertainer isn’t a die hard Democrat.

    • bungopony

Remember the poster on the back of the lyric sheet for “ten”?Right then,I knew they were a bunch of pretentious gimps, and”ten”would be their only good one.

  • NotBuyingItEvenForADollar

Because when I think of in depth, thoughtful, and cogent foreign policy, I think of lead singers. Not.

Almost as cogent as evangelical nutjobs who base their foreign policy towards Israel on their desire to fulfill biblical prophecies.

      • nickshaw

Oh, so it’s got nothing to do with a people on a tiny speck of land in the Middle East, completely surrounded by people who worship the cult of death who want to eliminate them from the face of the earth and the vast majority of Americans wanting to support them?

      • SR5150

Almost as cogent as atheist douche bags who are obsessed with a self-created idea that there is a massive group of Christians that are trying to control everything based on their belief. Where do you morons come up with this crap? Why are you obsessed with it?!?

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. -Proverbs 9:10

People who are for God are for Israel, people who are against God…aren’t.

Can you imagine a less fruitful life than one that is lived waging war against God?

I lost any respect for Eddie Vedder many years ago when he scrawled “pro choice” on his arm in a demonic fit during a concert. In his case, wisdom is not coming with age.

    • Jeffrey Rogers

      That is awesome. Thank you.

    • President Failure

LOL, well I guess that settles all debate. Because God.

Conversely, nobody needs to tell me you’re an idiot.

So everyone has to support Israel because God?? You have no respect for people who disagree with you on politics?

      • sambar2

Where did I say anyone “has” to do anything? You’re free to believe what you like.

Why would I have any respect for people who back terrorists (whose ultimate goal is to kill every Jew) over Israel’s right to defend itself? Why would I have respect for people who have no time for facts but, apparently, tons of time for propaganda?

  • Victoria Richardson

Why am I not surprised. More Israeli and Jewish hate. If they are not attacking the Christians they are attacking the Jews.

    • Richo

Where did he mention Jews in his rant?

    • Harry

Can you tell me how exactly was he attacking jews?

  • DaMello ®

I seen him once in Olympia when I went to see his wife’s band, Hovercraft, play at a very small venue called The Midnight Sun. He was sitting crossed leg on the hard concrete floor, which was sticky with beer, just rocking back and forth not even once looking at the stage. I tried to talk to him, because we met once before in Seattle, but he gave me a blank stare for a few moments and went back to rocking back and forth. My friends and I made a bet on which drugs he was on… but we will never know. The guy is so out there.

  • Disturbed12

I can’t understand half the words he sings. He mumbles constantly …

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

Better yet, just shut the hell up, Eddie, because you can’t sing worth a damn anyway IMO.

  • praymorenow1

He’s entitled to his opinion, & I’m sure he thinks he is 100% up to date on the truth about the current conflict. He’s a professional songwriter and singer, I am positive he is well versed in history, facts, & truth….he knows much more than Daily Kos & The Guardian reports.
On the other hand..I would love someone to let us know what the response from millionaire stars (which he is), on the deaths of the 3 young Israeli men, the people killed in bus attacks in Israel, the people kidnapped in Israel, use of ambulances & schools for Hamas/terrorist attacks & personnel…..oh bother.
Unless he stood up and denounced the admitted assaults of Hamas and other groups on Israeli civlians for years & years………as well as the current Israeli response to the violence……he’s a hypocrite.
There is a Palestinian nation – it is called Jordan, about 99% Palestinian, and land taken from the UN mandated Palestinian state….Jordan, Egypt, & other nations just swept up the land….and they put the Palestinians in the plight they are in. Not the Israelis’ who live on a pittance of land, and thrive.

    • nc ✓s & balances

And none of those Arab lands have ever lifted a finger to “relieve the suffering of their Arab brothers and sisters” unless it was to help arm them to try to kill Jews.

    • Jake Bradford

He’s entitled to his opinion. But he chooses a setting where his audience is captive and are forced to sit there and listen to him rant when they only paid to hear the music.
It’s like Madonna on her 2012 tour. She berated her fans to vote Obama and this happened at EVERY show. She had “Obama” painted on her back, too……where she should have just painted “Best Before 1992”

  • Jake

“Shut up and sing” is stupid. It always has been. Entertainers have every right to speak their opinions. Their profession doesn’t disqualify them. Granted, I think Vedder’s opinion is stupid and uneducated. But he shouldn’t have to shut up just because he’s an entertainer. Should Pat Sajak have to shut up and host? Or Ted Nugent shut up and sing? What about Adam Baldwin or Nick Searcy? It’s intellectually dishonest. More like “Shut up and sing unless I like the song you’re singing.”

    • nc ✓s & balances

Of course everyone has a right to their opinions. But during a concert? That’s where the “shut up and sing” phrase comes from. Let him tweet his heart out on his own time. Why should paying customers have to endure his rant?

      • Jake

I think it’s expected with guys like Vedder who are politically active. It would be like going to a Nugent concert and being shocked when he ranted about Obama.

        • Ms. Abigail van Beagle

So would it be ok if he (Vedder) preached a short sermon on the Gospel of salvation and gave an altar call?

          • T. Edward Price

Should he be prohibited from doing that?

          • Ms. Abigail van Beagle

            Doesn’t matter to me.
I’m just checking with the guy who thinks the rant against the Jews at a concert is ok to see if he’s equal opportunity or just full of hot air.

          • Jake

Did you miss this part? “Granted, I think Vedder’s opinion is stupid and uneducated.”

          • nc ✓s & balances

Too bad not enough concert goes expect respect along with a good performance from their performers anymore in exchange for the price of their ticket. Otherwise this “stupid and uneducated” moron would be out of a career. Fortunately for him, his audiences are just as stupid and uneducated, so he’ll be just fine.

          • nc ✓s & balances

Why are you changing the subject? No one said “prohibition.”

        • VerminMcCann

“Entertainers have every right to speak their opinions.”

Indeed. And their audiences have every right to tell them to shut up and sing.

    • Thomas Edward Wictor

He should both shut up AND not sing. Did you ever hear this?

      • Jake

I’m not clicking on that. I’d rather listen to a pack of drunken beagles warble.

        • NRPax

Damn, Jake; you made a funny that I had to give an upvote to. Bravo.

    • Ms. Abigail van Beagle

At a concert, you are paying them for a service.
That service is to perform their musical material.
      Not to preach a sermon.
Not to bring out a chalkboard and draw stick figures.
Not to extoll the virtues of Amway
And definitely not to go off on idiotic political rants.
The concertgoers should request their money back.

      • Jake

That’s not true. The venue pays the performer. When you buy your ticket, you’re purchasing entry into the venue for a specific event the venue is holding.

        • Ms. Abigail van Beagle

And what are you expecting to get in exchange for your money?

          • Jake

A performance by the artist hired by the venue. But there’s no guarantee of what kind of performance you’ll get. There’s no guarantee the performer you’re seeing will sing your favorite songs or talk to the crowd or even acknowledge the crowd.

      • Hirogen

Once, during a Pearl Jam concert, Eddie Vedder took a mask of President Bush and IMPALED it on a microphone stand

After that, I don’t think anyone is allowed to act surprised when he says or does something political onstage.

Actually, I’m surprised by the number of conservatives here who are swearing off Pearl Jam for all eternity. I would’ve thought the Bush mask incident would be enough to stop supporting him. Like Sarah Palin once said, “By golly, gosh darnit. This is the point where even battered women finally start sayin’ No Mas!”

        • Ms. Abigail van Beagle

I’m not swearing off anyone. I can count on one hand the number of rock concerts I’ve been to. I think that is the reason why I still have better than average hearing.
I just think that if you want to be appreciated for your art by all audiences, you might want to not p.o. half your audience by making some kind of political spectacle out of yourself. It’s well within his right to do whatever he wants, though. The fact that so many of these guys from the 80s & early 90s are still out there touring and getting crowds is amazing in itself.

It’s not anti-semetic to state that Israel is behaving irresponsibly. They are committing ethnic cleansing against the Palestinians and the world is turning a blind eye. Because Hitler committed genocide against Jews, Jews now have the green light to commit genocide against other ethnic groups. Kudos to Eddie Vedder.

  • des111168

I’m for ending aid to Israel too. The difference between us is that I want it to end because Israel is a well to do first world country now, and can support themselves, and not because I’m a rock star that froths about Jews when he’s not complaining about Bush.

    • nc ✓s & balances

Netanyahu said today the Iron Dome could not have existed without America’s financial help, and he thanked us.

      • IsraeliCojones

Military cooperation is a two-way street (from which the US also greatly benefits) that is a completely different story from “aid” which I want to be stopped altogether, like a lot of Israelis.

In military cooperation, we are takers AND givers.

In aid, we are takers that renounce to our political freedom for a bunch of dollars that WE DON’T NEED.

IOW, this money that is nothing compared to our GDP comes with huge strings attached. And that’s why I want it to end.

For the record, there was one PM, a long time ago, who proposed to an American President to get rid of that aid over a course of 5 years. Shortly after that, this PM was harassed by the press with made up scandals and lost the next elections.

We think here that these made-up stories and hostile press campaign have been orchestrated by the WH, because of the wish to terminate the aid.

The PM was Netanyahu and the President was Clinton. It was in 1999.

  • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Actually, aside from the “dropping bombs” and “lookin’ to kill” part, which makes it clear he’s talking about Israel, I could actually get behind the part about “People are comin’ across borders, lookin’ to take land that doesn’t belong to them…” It’s called the “Reconquista”– “Aztlan”– the goal of people like La Raza, and while it’s NOT the Mexicans who are sending their kids over the border in the recent wave, it does no harm to La Raza’s cause, does it?

Just a curious turn of phrase, that got me thinking in quite a different direction…

  • rmezoff

Eddie Vedder has always been a pig, and all you can expect from a pig is a grunt.

  • genes ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Everyone has a right to state(or yell) their opinion, but there is a time and place for it. When people have paid to hear a band preform music they don’t want to hear an incoherent rant. People tend to forget that the paying audience members have a right to express their opinions as well. That expression might be booing Sinead O’conner off the stage, calling radio stations and telling them that if they play Dixie Chicks songs you will no longer listen to the station or yelling “shut up and sing”.

    • Jake Bradford

For the most part, performers are really really dumb. And only informed by extreme leftist opinions.

  • Charles Hargrave

I agree, shut up and sing, that’s why the fans pay a lot to see Pearl Jam,Eddie must not have seen the news story about the three young guys from Isreal being murdered by Hamas which started this whole attack, singing and writing songs doesn’t make anyone smart.

Leftists would rather make the rest into Arab countries.

  • Julescat

    didn’t this guy OD yet?

    • World B. Free

No, you must be confusing Eddie Vetter with someone who’s actually talented.

Years ago I saw Pearl Jam – and Eddie Vedder went on a pro-lgbt rant.
The reaction was about the same – if I wanted to be preached to I would have gone to church instead.

  • Sir_Ronald

hey man, it’s cool to be anti-jew, everybody knows that..

  • Determined

    Being anti-war is NOT anti-semitism.

Being opposed to dropping bombs on each other is NOT anti-semitism.

This is getting as old as claiming everyone opposed to President Obama is racist! SAME THING. and just as WRONG!

Even being opposed to some of the political decision and actions of Israel is NOT anti-semitism.

    • mrspinky85

Either you stand with Israel or you don’t. Time to choose.

      • Determined

While computers may be binary, we and life are a little more complex than yes or no.

        • mrspinky85

Nope. Whether you are anti Semitic or not doesn’t matter. You either stand with Israel or you don’t. It is just that simple.

The friend of my enemy, is my enemy.

    • Jake Bradford

You can be a pacifist until you are attacked and your country is bombarded with rockets. Innocents are abducted and slaughtered.
It takes balls to stand up to evil and say NO MORE

    • keyboard jockey

Except you left out the part the reason Israel is being attacked – because they aren’t Muslims.

    • arrow2010

Fall moral equivalence between Israel and Hamas. Once is a nation, the other is a terrorist organization.

  • mrspinky85

I guess today we have to make purchasing decisions based on our ideologies. We cannot seem to stay neutral anymore. Well, I guess I have to be more picky where my little bit of money goes while I still can choose.

    • Pearl Forrester

I don’t want it to be that way either. It depends on the comment of course, but when an actor/musician that I formerly liked says something beyond stupid (for instance, a B movie actress that I absolutely loved posted a pro-gay marriage post on facebook years ago…and said anyone who didn’t agree is a hater and she would block anyone who commented against it) it dulls my enjoyment of their stuff. Even if I fought it, I couldn’t help it. I know that most entertainers are liberal, and I am okay with that as long as they aren’t in your face about it. But those who go out of their way to show their stupidity, I no longer wish to support them.

  • chrisallenrich

I love Pearl Jam’s music but musicians like Eddie Vedder, Bruce Springsteen etc. never mature beyond their 13 year old selves. They see the world through the mind of an innocent and naive child. As I watched him sing “War”, I remembered being a child and singing that song with the same fervor. I grew up, Eddie didn’t.

    • Harry

They disagree with you on politics. That doesn’t make then naive or childish. They simply disagree with you.

      • chrisallenrich

Wrong Harry. Disagreeing with my favorite color is just disagreeing. Believing the lyrics “war, what is it good for?” have any relevancy is childish and dangerous. See what Boko Haram said about the “Bring Back Our Girls” foreign policy campaign earlier today.

  • President Failure

Pearl Jam is still a thing?

  • Liz

wait he was talking about Israel and not Hamas??….. 😐

    • Liz

I couldn’t really tell who specifically he was referring to but either way, why are musicians and actors so weird?

  • j p✓ʳᵉᶠʳᶦᵉᵈ

    Jeremy……SHUT UP!

  • Magnifico

How cute….another idiot celebrity attempting to formulate a complete thought.

  • The_Repentant_Curmudgeon

If one of these guys attacked your sister, would you still buy their records? We have to stop listening to them.

  • irishgirl91

He has said similar things in the past. It is the political view of a great many entertainers.

  • Skip Clarke

Can someone point me to his rant about Hamas kidnapping and killing three Jewish boys, one of which happened to be an American citizen? Besides, they haven’t made a good album in 30 years (Vitology – 1994). Soon after the music went down hill, and the politics became bigger than the music.

  • TheOriginalDonald

Eddie put his foot in his mouth todaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

  • Conservative Pitbull

What an idiot. Who lobs bombs into Israel whenever they want? Who kills 3 innocent teenagers like it’s a normal? Hamas Eddie Munster. Take a closer look and stop with the bandwagon antics against humans who just want to live a peaceful life. But you wouldn’t know anything about that since you’re so angry all the time. I bet you even protest a stick of deodorant just to spite the store that sells it. idiot. Someone should just kick your ass.

  • DefCon99

Israel is not always right, but they are the only democracy in the Middle East and Arabs can win seats in their parliament. Imagine how Jews would be treated in Muslim lands.

  • Conservative Pitbull

Pearl Jam. Sounds like a bad gay nightmare.

  • Scott Carroll

Quick, someone lob a few thousand rockets at his house and then let’s ask him again.

  • Barry A. Brewer

Eddie Vedder is a well-known, serial moron

  • World B. Free

Pearl jam’s music sucks anyway, and I say this as a die hard rock fan.

Eddie Vetter’s voice is mediocre at best.

In 20 years, people are going to be saying, “Pearl who?”

    • Jake Bradford

Some of us are already saying that

  • notenoughtime

Bless his heart, but no one cares what he thinks.

  • Hugh Jass

This is surprising? Vedder is always spouting his political messages.

  • LegalizeShemp

He pulled out a Sharpie and wrote “Pro-Choice” in big letters on his arm in the middle of a song once too. Rockers are nothing but far left drama queens? Wow, that’s a new one !

    • NotBuyingItEvenForADollar

Oh, yeah, drawing on oneself isn’t a sign of idiocy. :/

  • Pearl Forrester

I truly love the grunge era of music. It’s what I grew up with. Learning how ill informed people like Eddie Vedder is, makes me so glad that I was never a Pearl Jam fan. I am more of a Nirvana/Smashing Pumpkins kinda girl. I’ve said it before. I just love how the old school rockers were so “fight the man!” now they are “bow down before the man.” For these bands to make such thoughtful music in which they freely express themselves to spawn such liberal thinking is beyond my understanding for sure.

  • Eric

Well, I never cared much for his music ( his voice just grates at my ears. ) Now I have another reason to ignore it. Not that I really needed one . . .

  • Jack O’Spades

I have despised Pearl Jam since the early 90’s when they played at some pro-choice benefit. Besides, all of their music sounds like the ramblings of a homeless man that grew up in a shitty broken family.

  • Right Wired ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Eddie Vedder is egotistical primadonna. I had encountered with him once (backstage at a concert) – his staff treats him like the Pope and he acts like one.

There were 7 dressing rooms at the venue.

1 was for the opening act (band, crew, friends)

    1 was for Eddie

1 was for Eddie’s personal chef

4 were for rest of the band and the road crew.

He’s got a severe case of Napoleon syndrome. too.

  • “Rev Jim Jones”

Never order steak from a burger joint and never expect intelligence from entertainers.

  • HiltonHead_Dude

I suggest he take his band and they perform a set in the Gaza strip and see how it goes.

  • HiltonHead_Dude

Rather a warped perspective to think Israel is looking for a reason to kill, when it’s the other side that after killing 3 students, starts to lob missiles directly into civilian population centers.

  • DeadlockVictim

I can do a pretty good Eddie Vedder singing impressing. The trick is to pretend you’ve just been given three novocaine injections.

  • craigzimmerman12

Israel is not perfect, but I believe they do the best they can in a region filled with terrorist groups funded and trained by Iran and others.

  • Julescat

    Nazi Vedder

  • NotBuyingItEvenForADollar

I think everybody’s elderly relative should become a lead singer for a band, because, on the whole, I’d rather hear about (possibly) nasty physical ailments and surgeries than some spoiled luvvie’s political opinion. Now! The Zimmer Framed lead by my ancient Uncle “Morty” : “I’ll sing for you in a bit, but first let me tell you about my SCIATICA!!!!”

    • Hugh Jaskock

You just might be on to something here.

  • yourmamatoo

Another has been trying to be relevant.

  • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

    Never liked Pearl Jam, anyways.

  • Diego Cruyff

I was at this concert and find a lot of the comments here to be way off the mark. Has everybody watched the clip and listened to what Eddie Vedder says?

There is NO MENTION of a specific country, race or religious group. Antisemitism can take many forms, each as morally repugnant as the other, but EV is simply expressing his exasperation about war (in very general terms), which makes the suggestion he is antisemitic short-sighted and ill-judged. Equally I didn’t hear him say Israel once.

I feel confident that not a single one of the people who have commented does support dropping bombs on innocent civilians. Certainly I myself think it is a devastatingly cowardly act, irrespective of which country is the purveyor or participant of the act.

Whilst you may not agree with an artists views, certainly it is more interesting to watch an artist who has strong views and motivations. Hendrix, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Springsteen, Dylan and many more artists who feature in most peoples music collections have at one time or another expressed an anti-war message.

Having been at the gig I assure you his anti-war message was universally applauded as people understood the context. I feel that some people here have read the (ill-chosen) article title and assumed the worst. EV’s message was clearly anti-war, nothing else. If you think differently then I suggest that the article title should be re-written as ‘60,000 people applaud anti-Israel remarks’ because that would be the story.

Finally, if you want vanilla pop-music then Simon Cowell would really appreciate if you could text to support his next batch of empty-vessels, but only after you have destroyed all of the records you own by the artists mentioned above.

    • Rob

You may be giving him too much benefit of the doubt. If he went on this rant a month ago when rockets were landing on Israel you may have a point.
The righteous indignation seems to only come when Israel responds and disappears when Israel is just on the receiving end of the attacks.
Since you mentioned Dylan, check out the song “Neighborhood Bully” which is a scathingly commentary on the hypocrisy, double standards and questionable motivations that spark rants on this subject.
Of course give EV a chance to explain his strong views more coherently ….without the bottle in hand.

      • Diego Cruyff

Hi RobCon. Thank you for your reply.
Interesting reference of the Dylan song, I enjoyed listening.
Your comment on the timing is a good point, but it was a very general anti-war proclamation. As EV has himself said in his re-action statement he has always taken this (perhaps idealistic) stance against war, so for me, I do think people have been unfair to accuse him of antisemitic or anti-Israel
Perhaps I have given him ‘too much benefit of the doubt’ but I think people who have distorted what was said have not given him much benefit of the doubt at all. Some people don’t listen enough to the content, but maybe just read the headline.
If you have read his response then your comment of ‘without the bottle in hand’ seems to fit very well indeed. A more measured statement this time :)

  • lgeubank

It’s uncanny. EVERY time some lefty starts ranting against some perceived enemy, the argument — the rap, the accusation — is always what the lefty identifies as his opponent’s MOTIVES.

How does he know the motives? He does not. That’s just the only excuse or rationalization he can think of. It’s, “The people I hate are JUST LOOKING for an excuse to go to war.” Or, “The people I dislike want voter ID’s because they’re racist.” Or, “The people I disapprove of dislike Obamacare because racism.”

I guess if the Israelis are JUST LOOKING for an excuse to go to war, it’s lucky for them that Hamas abducted and murdered three teenagers, and then started bombarding Israel with missiles. Those lucky Israelis! That’s the mentally defective leftist logic for you!

These pious, self-righteous mental-defective lefties always resort to motive-mongering, because that’s all they’ve got.

  • Phelps

Yeah, there is a group that is just waiting to cross borders and kill people — they are the JORDANIAN REFUGEES WE CALL PALESTINIANS.

  • Drumwaster

Why do these half-wits think that “Fame = Wisdom”? Is it the cadre of (well-paid) staffers who do nothing but “ohh” and “aah” at every whim? (At least as long as the money keeps rolling in, that is.) Maybe we ought to reinstitute Caesar’s practice of having someone right behind their right shoulders repeatedly intoning, “Remember, thou art mortal.”

Either that, or just bitch-slap them regularly.

    • MC12

Guess what? We have this thing called Freedom of Speech in this country. Why are you posting comments? What makes you think YOU are wise?

      • Drumwaster

Just as I have the Freedom of Speech to call him (and you) morons for expressing such hateful views. See how that works?

If you’d like another bitch-slap, just let me know.

All Pearl Jam music I once owned: Trashed.

The Radical Left Rockers are so painfully chloroformed in their self-righteous and self-delude fantasy bubble that they are hard to hate. Having a sickening pity for them is about as far as it goes for me.

  • frozeninbemidji

He must be talking about the 1000+ missiles launched by hamas into Israel and the $400 millions plus they’re getting from the US this year.

  • lazypadawan

So where was Eddie when Syrians were killing each other? Does he have anything to say about Iraqi Sunnis murdering Shi’a and Christian Iraqis?

What a hypocrite. He’s only pandering to Britain’s new wave of anti-Semitism.

  • Jay Martin

A rock singer talks about dropping bombs, war, people who want to kill and take land, he then says war should stop…. everyone says it’s Israel he’s talking about… and some even say it’s anti-semitic yet he never says Israel, never mentions Jews… someone made a PR mistake when they highlighted that one!

  • TocksNedlog

100% agree that musicians should just ‘shut the hell up and sing,’ BUT, trashing the CD’s of a musician you like just because he says something you don’t like is its own kinda DUMB.

  • Philip ‘Axel’ Navarre Its not an old rant. This one whould be directed at George W.

  • Dany Von

Caught on tape, What did Roger Waters say to Eddie Vedder about Israel?

  • Erik Bartlam

As horrific as it sounds, if I had to be stuck in the same room as eddie vedder I think I’d rather hear him rant about Israel than sing those awful, derivative rawk songs his band writes.

  • Gene St Onge

Sorry, all you Zionists who live in your own little bubbles that don’t let the reality of Israel’s war crimes in. Every once in a while one of you have to listen to a little hard truth from celebrities like Eddie Vedder or Elvis Costello and it really throws you off. Well, poor things. At least you don’t have to be on the receiving end of Israel’s latest killing technologies!!

    • Erik Bartlam

      It’s not a bubble….it’s an iron dome.

  • GulfPundit

Finally: Proof that an insipid moron doesn’t sound any less insipid and moronic with a band behind him.

  • Harry

Anti-semite? Did he say anything about jewish people?

    • Misty Richards

I never understood the term ‘anti-semite’. Are they claiming to be the offspring of Shem and if so, what if some of the Palestinians are from the stock of Shem? Would that make those who speak against Palestinians anti-Shemites?

  • Hugh Jaskock

I don’t care about the anti war rant, but I feel like Edde Vedder committed a war crime on my ears. Jeez, that sucked. People actually paid to listen to that? Maybe P.T. Barnum had it right……

  • Larry Keeling

Listen to RUSH much better band. Pearl Jam’s 15 minutes was up in 94

  • ann_h

Damn, a couple years ago I lost my whole music collection in a storage unit fire. I have gone iTune-central for a lot of my music but there are certain artists I wanted to replenish with hard copies (yes, actual CD’s, LOL) and I have been slowly purchasing items over the last year or so. I was just getting around to my Pearl Jam collection…thought about it just the other day. Well, apparently that is a couple CDs I can save my money on now! On to the next artist….too bad Eddie Vedder & Co. These comments are definitely going to come back and bite you in the derriere.

    • Erik Bartlam

You didn’t already know that eddie vedder was a GED, community college drop out, that can’t stop telling what he thinks about everything?

      • ann_h

Haha, umm, I knew he was and I knew my politic wouldn’t mesh with his, that he was pretty opinionated but never knew he ranted quite like this:)

  • JD

See, this is so common. Vedder, Madonna, Paul McCartney, and so many more get to a point in their lives where they think they can preach to others because they’ve made their money and they think they know better than you. They feel because they’ve done it all by now, they can vomit up their political beliefs and screw you if you don’t like it basically.

  • kfkhalili

The flag being waved by Zionists right now is that Hamas is using civilian shields, but how do you know that it’s true? In 2009, Israel used this same excuse about Palestinian armed groups using civilians as human shields. A UN Fact Finding Mission published a report saying otherwise.
Search for the following keywords if you don’t want to read the whole thing, but I strongly urge you to read it all. There is nothing to hide. “Deliberate attacks” and “no evidence”.

Also, here is the list of UN Security Council Violations committed by Israel since 1948, please note that there are 79 of them in total:

Israel has the highest number of UN Security Council violations in the world, just so you’re aware.

But to bring things into even more perspective, here are 21 official criticisms of Israel by the UN General Assembly, versus 4 for the entire world combined, and this is in 2013 only!

Finally, I would like to leave you with this site to browse, they present sources with the information from Israeli or Jewish organizations, just for you to know that they are not biased.

Thank you for reading this far. Please share if you found it convincing.

What a one-sided toss of an article. The tweets you included tripled the length of your content. Eddie is anti-war, any war…he wasn’t taking sides. People are so ignorant and don’t do any research…read an open letter that he wrote on the band’s website to get the truth, written by someone who can write, rather than a halfwit who puts up misleading headlines and false information..–_i%E2%80%99m_still_anti-war

Gotta love the people on here that totally miss the message. STOP KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE. Wake up and stop the madness. To those defending Israel… today you killed innocent children on a god damn beach. THAT’S WHAT THE PROBLEM IS.

Religion has caused more deaths then all the diseases and natural disasters combined. Wake up and realize that religion was created to help explain things before science was able to. Greeks created mythology and “gods” to answer the questions that existed at the time. The bible says the earth is 6000 years old. Hasn’t science proven that it’s billions of years old? Anyone also hear of evolution?

Yeah tell that those peace loving muslims lobbing rockets at schools, hospitals and a nuclear power plant, you can’t reason with these wackos muslims they have been taught for thousands of years the only good jew is a dead jew.I can’t believe the Israelis would’nt love for this to be over and just be left alone,If there was a peace plan on the table that really meant peace for Isreal they would sign it in a heartbeat.
