As Twitchy reported, “Mythbusters” stars Tory Belleci and Grant Imahara live-tweeted the shooting incident at LAX today. Some of Imahara’s followers were none too pleased with the “gun” in his Twitter avatar.

https://twitter.com/tommytenzo/status/396322928930746368

That’s right, Imahara was being evacuated during a shooting incident and they wanted him to change to a gun-free profile pic. Here’s what Imahara’s Twitter bio and avatar looked like during the shooting.

Imahara tweeted that he’s safe and he decided to go ahead and change his profile photo.

Here’s what his Twitter bio and avi look like now.

And the world is safe from props in PR pics once more.

[Update]

Editor’s note: The title has been amended for clarification.

  • TroyGates

Because having a gun in his Twitter avatar equates to him wanting someone to shoot up LAX. Man people are stupid.

    • BorderLine Guy

You just don’t get it. The mere appearance of a gun (even fake Star Wars blaster) will cause PEOPLE TO DIE…or something.

    • IBXNJ

The Mythbusters show has done countless myths involving firearms they often have had to shoot them.

      • NachoCheese (D)

…and remarked about how much fun it was. The episode with the minigun for example.

        • Blake Waymire

The multiple episodes involving the minigun. Every time they said it was awesome.

          • http://www.artinphoenix.com/gallery/grimm snowleopard (the true one)

I remember them cutting down a tree with it, or was that a ‘near success’?

The next best was ‘shooting fish in a barrel,’ when in the end they brought out the .50 cal.

          • Blake Waymire

The machine gun saw was a fail for everything except the minigun, which tore it to pieces (as miniguns like to do). They sadly didn’t use a .50 for shooting fish in a barrel, but now I really want to e-mail them to tell the to see what an M2 Browning could do to that…

        • http://www.artinphoenix.com/gallery/grimm snowleopard (the true one)

I would love to fire that thing, one old fashion M240 Vulcan on ‘rock-and-roll’ on a safe firing range.

    • mickeyco

Oh, yes, they. are, Troy, yes they are.

    • blair houghton

Where did the guy who shot up LAX get the idea to shoot up LAX? From people who don’t treat guns as a source of power and joy, or from the other kind?

      • JeffWRidge

You’re right. We shouldn’t blame the criminal or crazy person who commits a crime. No, let’s blame other people who had nothing to do with it.

It’s not as if a criminal, or crazy person, could possibly come up with the idea of shooting, or otherwise harming, their victim, unless others somehow give him the idea to do it. Because criminals/crazy people never think up these things on their own.

Yeah boy, it’s all the fault of people who own legal guns, and enjoy hunting and shooting. Or maybe it’s because of video games? We could blame movie and TV violence as well. Let’s not forget music. Let’s blame anything and everything except the criminal!

        • http://www.artinphoenix.com/gallery/grimm snowleopard (the true one)

That is the way of the left, blame the firearm itself, or the ones who use firearms safely. Madness.

My grandfather (when he was alive) and father have owned many firearms, all safely secured in individual cases or a safe. To my knowledge, in my life, not one time has a gun gone off on its own or walked out the door threatening to do harm.

          • JeffWRidge

Same here. I have never known of any guns, not mine, or my friends’ guns, to go out and assault anyone. I’ve known people who got hurt by guns when they did something foolish with one. Just as I know people who have been hurt when they did something foolish with a knives, cars, and one guy who managed to hurt himself with an old-style telephone. The problem is people, not inanimate objects.

          • Rabid

            They sneak out while you’re asleep….. :)

        • sardiverdave

The really funny part is that if/when he’s convicted of the crime, the libs will fight for his right to keep voting.

          • JeffWRidge

Even after he’s dead, for that matter.

        • blair houghton

“who had nothing to do with it”

in that statement, you’re presuming your conclusion

          • JeffWRidge

Wrong. It is you who is making presumptions. You presume that I, and the millions of other guns owners in this country, somehow gave this shooter the idea to go and shoot someone. I had nothing to do with it! I know that for a fact.

Can you prove that somehow I, or my fellow gun owners, inspired the person to commit his crime? If so, present your evidence. If not, then please explain your comment.

          • blair houghton

I asked a question. And unless you can ask the dead gunman why he (a) bought an assault rifle and (b) used it to assault the government, then you can’t know you had nothing to do with it. So that’s another presumption on your part. I just asked a question. Your reaction exhibits a lot of fear and guilt and bluster, but very little logic.

          • JeffWRidge

Bull. You didn’t ask why he brought a gun and used it to assault a human being.

BTW, he did not assault a government. A government wasn’t shot. A person was.

No, what you was did was give two options for why the gunman committed his crime. Your question was whether he got the idea to shoot up LAX from,

“…people who don’t treat guns as a source of power and joy, or from the other kind.”

You couched it in terms so that only one of those two possibilities existed for why he did what he did. No option for him to have thought it up by himself. No option for him to just be insane. No option for him to be a criminal. No, according to your question, he had to get the idea from someone.

Now you’re trying to weasel out of it. Those are your words. You didn’t ask about why he obtained a rifle, or why he committed his crime as you now claim. You asked who gave him the idea, who was to blame, and you only allowed for two groups to be assigned that blame.

As I already noted, it is you who are making presumptions. You cannot connect me, or anything I ever did, wrote, said, or thought, to this man’s crime. I never met him, or even know his name, or of his very existence, until now.

The main thing I fear these days, is people like you, who try to link me, and other law-abiding gun owners, to crimes we had nothing to do with, so that you can push for gun laws. I feel no guilt, for as I wrote, I had nothing to do with this crime.

You need to learn how to apply logic before lecturing others on its use. You display very little logical thought.

One last thing. How about you define the term “assault weapon” for me? I’d like to know what you consider to be the characteristics of such a item.

        • Deborah Hallsted

We should ban all TV shows and movies that show theft, that way nobody will ever think about stealing again.
          Right? {{sigh}}

      • SturJen

Yeah, there’s not like…stories of some guy in NYC who stabs to death a woman and her 3 kids because he was envious of their $$.

        Link: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/10/28/man-fatally-stabs-mother-4-children-in-brooklyn-home/

Evil will find a way to kill no matter the weapon. Don’t be an idiot. By being a dupe, you’re part of the problem, not of the solution.

        • blair houghton

What does the 1st half of the 2nd Amendment say, and why? If you don’t know, then you’re the dupe. Do you support universal background checks including psychological profiles? If not, then you’re the dupe. Are people who understand the 2nd Amendment and want thorough background checks trying to ban all guns? If you think so, then you’re the dupe.

          • SturJen

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

I am confused, which part is the one that’s giving you trouble? Background checks are….get this…SUBJECTIVE to whomever is in power. Therin lies the problem. The dictator pretending to be President is attempting to write the rules so that only his hand-picked elites get guns. The rest of us will be deemed ‘unfit’ due to whatever whim-rule he chooses.

            The dupe is STILL YOU.

          • blair houghton

Okay, so you don’t understand it, and you hate the idea of government governing, especially if your opinions aren’t the law. You’re exactly like the guy who took his gun into the airport yesterday and acted out his anti-governmental fantasies, except he acted. Keep it that way, at least.

          • SturJen

I have no fantasies of government, if truth be told.

BUT a ‘Government Governing” is apparently your wet dream. So keep dreaming it man, all the way to its inevitable demise.

    • Zorro

      People? No. Democrats, yes.

    • sardiverdave

And my carrying a concealed firearm apparently makes me a threat to society and someone likely to shoot up LAX, so I should be subject to further gun control, right?

    • Mike Sharkey

Sadly, you are understating the true depth of it, Troy.

  • https://twitter.com/Captain_Cy_kun Cy

Was the shooting carried out by Han Solo? If not, I don’t see how anyone could find that avatar questionable…

    • NRPax

There’s a debate on whether or not he fired the first shot.

      • StotheOB

There is NO debate, there is merely revisionists movie editing

        • NRPax

You know what’s even more of a shame? Like The Matrix, there was enough material out there to make a few more movies out of it. Shame that it never happened.

          • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

The shame was making a nation of 7 year olds wait 7 years for a sequel to their favorite movie . . . and then it turned out to be lame in comparison.

          • Guest

Which movie are you talking about?

          • Weygand

Which movie and sequel are you talking about?

          • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

The one to which we were referring, involving Han Solo.

(Not that I’m bitter about the wait or anything, that would be wrong.)

          • Weygand

Which star wars movie was 7 years after its predecessor? IV came out in 77, V in 1980 and VI in 83

          • StotheOB

Nah, the big shame is and will always be… Greedo never even fired a damn shot in the original

Revisionist editing and resulting conversation has skipped past that completely and instead inserted a completely false choice as to what people think. So despite actual copies of movies being in the hands of millions of people showing Han pulling and firing without Greedo ever even making a move, we get to hear people state otherwise

Its quite maddening; its the same Orwellian crap Dems pull all the time

      • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

Han fired first, I saw it in the theatre, I’m a witness.

        • NRPax

Hell, I was there myself and remember it quite clearly. I may have only seven at the time but the memory is good.

    • http://www.coreyspofford.com/ YEROCDROFFOPS

Yes & in fact it was performed with a FULLY AUTOMATIC ASSAULT LASER CANNON with optional EXTREME 1.21 GIGAWATT CAPACITY CLIP

  • https://www.facebook.com/libertyNvrsleeps Thomas Purcell

Its a freaking Han Solo gun. What a bunch of overreacting idiots.

  • Patricia Taylor

LAX is a gun free zone yo. Why did this guy get through TSA checkpoint with a rifle? TSA go away.

    • JD

It happened in the area prior to going through security.

    • Mike McLain

I thought guns were illegal in California, why was there even a gun in the state?

  • pinupartist

Unless the LAX shooter used Han Solo’s blaster, I’m not seeing a problem.
    Knee-jerk leftists…!

    • BlackLesnar

Don’t worry. Han Solo’s blaster no longer shoots first.

      • OutbackJon

I think that would make an excellent t-shirt for ridiculing the gun-confiscation supporters.
        “Han’s blaster shot first!”

  • Morneau_for_4

LOL..do they sell those guns at Gander Mountain and Cabela’s? People are stupid.

  • thetawake

Whuuuuuh…I really don’t get what this is enough to comment except to say that Grant was wrong to remove the pic of himself with what is clearly some sort of sci-fi blaster/raygun er something. Stupid.

  • Steve_in_RR

Pansy liberals freaking out over a movie prop.

  • LinTaylor ✓vitrified

Yeah, because Grant might have actually BEEN at the place where someone was shooting wildly, but it’s more important that he show concern for the people who might faint from horror at the sight of a photograph of him imitating Han Solo.

Heaven help the poor guy if it turns out that the shooter was Asian; the whiny libs will get on his case again to change his avatar to something less offensive.

    • NRPax

How about one of the police avatars from Psycho Pass? That looks totally harmless!

      • LinTaylor ✓vitrified

Thanks, that’s gonna replace the whale in my nightmares.

        • NRPax

I aim for center mass to please.

  • badazoth

I hate cowards tell em its a fikng laser gun and to kiss your ass

  • TYPE O NEGATIVE

He’s holding something that looks like Buck Rogers would shoot, it’s not real

    • sardiverdave

It’s actually built on a real gun. It was a Mauser C96 “Broomhandle”.

      • J_H_C

Most of the small arms in Star Wars were real guns, modified with scopes and other gingerbread. They were modified to shoot blanks so as to have a flash and a bang to synchronize the visual and audio FX. But I am willing to bet real money that the blaster Grant was holding wasn’t even that functional. Some people have a real need for a plexiglas belly button.

        • sardiverdave

Agreed on the plexi-button. Once you get into the habit of good trigger discipline, it’s tough not to notice, though.

I was pointing out the Mauser connection as a point of trivia.

  • greatunconformity

He should have changed it for displaying poor trigger control, not for showing a “gun”.

    • Jason Call

I pretty much logged in just to find this comment and upvote it.

  • Republicanvet

    Oh the humanity!!

Where would we be without liberal butthurt?

    • NRPax

We would be happier, richer, and gainfully employed.

  • thedumbblonde

I’m am shocked and outraged that he didn’t have the presence of mind to change his profile picture for freaking Twitter during a shooting. SHOCKED. AND OUTRAGED. /sarcasm off

  • John Watson

America is obsessed with guns and Myth Busters obsession with guns and explosives reflects exactly what America wants to see.

    • NRPax

Well, liberals are obsessed with taking guns away for some strange reason.

    • ObamaFail

Liberals are obsessed with abortions, I don’t hear you whining about that. Grow up. This isn’t because of guns, it was one maniac. You libs hate other people owning guns, but the banning of guns you libs want so much won’t affect criminals. But maybe that’s what you libs want. LAX is one of those praised gun free zones you libs want everywhere. WHY DIDN’T THE SIGN STOP HIM? Could it be that banning guns won’t stop killers?

      • NRPax

Yet another example of “Criminals don’t give a s%$t.”

        • StotheOB

          Criminals breaking the law???

Nah, Im not gullible enough to believe such nonsense…

      • Republicanvet

There was some training offered where I work the other day on active shooters.

I said I refused to participate because we had a sign on our door explaining no weapons were allowed and that was supposed to keep me safe.

…like some lame training could tell me how to act in an active shooter event…sheesh.

        • OutbackJon

Unless the training is “Return fire until the threat is eliminated.”, it isn’t training that I’d be interested in.

    • mike_in_kosovo

      Snippet:

But the truth is he desperately needs Taniqua Hall, just like he
needs as many Columbines and Santees as can be mustered, until they
spell an end to the Second Amendment. And not for the benefit of the
masses, but for the benefit of his self-esteem.

He often accuses men with guns of “compensating for something.” The truth is quite the reverse. After all, how is he supposed to feel knowing there
are men out there who aren’t intimidated by the big bad inanimate
      villain?

  • Barry A. Brewer

Because I am absolutely sure the shooter is firing a Star Wars blaster – grow up, people

  • VagabondTravel

Well this was non-news, flagrant exploitation of the LAX shooting. Not cool at all.

  • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

“Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.” – Han Solo

    • NRPax

Which is pretty accurate when you think of how quickly the Jedi were massacred by troopers with lots of blasters.

      • Weygand

Not to mention a planet vaporized.

  • Republicanvet

Using this logic, liberals would be furiously scrubbing their Facebook accounts of any family baby pictures after every abortion.

    • ObamaFail

Liberals take pride in how many abortions they’ve had.

  • AimToMisbehave

    What a bunch of ninnies…

  • MerkMan

    Geez! Lighten up idiots!

  • Ted H.

    We need blaster control…CLEARLY

    • StotheOB

I think their argument would be we need HERO control

Afterall, that is what they tell us endlessly – don’t make a move, just wait for the authorities to get there. In Han’s case, you know, these guys…

  • HanaFiveO

Folks need to grow up. What do you want info or neutral twitter profiles? Im sure the folks with loved ones at LAX would rather the info.

  • Grumpy Ol Fart

Lets start offending people with pictures of guns.

  • ObamaFail

How is Grant Imahara changing his profile pic going to stop more gun violence libs? And banning guns isn’t the answer, because only law abiding gun owners are effected by stricter laws.

    • Republicanvet

Well, we all know what could happen when some maniac 6 year old starts waving around a loaded pop-tart.

Who knows the carnage that could result from a picture of a laser blaster!

  • Ntr

Sooner or later (if they haven’t already) they’re going to “call out” Tory Belleci too since one of the photos that pops up of him, on google images, is of him holding a gun and pointing it at the camera with a scowl on his face.

  • Ntr

Perhaps we should shout down the white liberals who bothered Grant Imahara and call them racists since Imahara is a minority.

  • Donny Edinborough

Ban Ray guns before they are invented! MEH!

    • sardiverdave

      Oh, that’s just garbage you’re spewing! I never…

Wait, I thought you said we should ban RayBans. Nevermind.

  • Kabong30

    Way to buckle, dummy.

  • Guest

jesus… so having an avatar now like star wars makes you evil. Unreal. The world is full of idiots. Stupidity should really really hurt

  • WhoDat

I think people were asking him to change it because of those people, who are so afraid of even a photo of a gun, they go into panic attacks.

  • Ken Alan Draper

Damn panty-waists can’t even tell an iconic movie prop blaster from an actual firearm. Sad. There was a time in this country when every man, w oman, and child were intimately familier with firearms. This country is really going downhill.

    • Weygand

You just don’t get it. It’s not about whether the gun is fantasy or not. It’s that he has one in his picture which clearly signifies he supports the shooter’s killing of a stranger. Clearly

      • Nov-cubed

        Positively!

      • fred2

        I hope you’re being sarcastic.

        • Iam NotaLiberal

Pretty sure the clearly gave that away, lol

  • MrApple

Maybe its time to register all toy and replica guns. Do it for the children!

  • Zefal

If he didn’t have a gun in his avatar and were Jewish and tweeting how defenseless his people were against nazism, would that qualify as ironic?

  • Zefal

I have an alien in my avatar. Just fin case we are attacked by alien beings and I tweet that we are being attacked by aliens, please don’t point out how ironic it is, I already know you’re stupid. No need to reaffirm. TY.

  • Joe

    fn pussy!

  • Joe

I won’t watch his show any longer! Coward!

  • sardiverdave

Isn’t this one of the dopes who put a cannonball into someone’s house?

    Yeah, shut up.

  • Gordon Crisp

Love Grant and Tory, as long as they shield Kary.

  • neoface

Now that he has changed his avatar, we are all much safer. Give me a break, its another case of mental illness. What would the world be like without lamebrain libtards. Maybe a more intelligent world, less mentally ill people. Notice none of these mass murders are conservatives. Hmmm……

  • Kickass Conservative

Not sure I get it, was Han Solo the LAX shooter?

  • pgson

Yes, how dare he have a good blaster at his side when attending a photo shoot. La la land strikes again… An obvious fake sci fi “gun” is too insensitive … from the person who was under fire today from a liberal whack-job. He can have any damn gun in his profile he wants.

  • Kris Osterhout

I am so disgusted with most people. “OMG! Something terrible happened and now you’re holding something similar that was involved in the terrible thing which makes you guilty by proxy!” How, exactly, is a picture of Grant holding a PROP gun in ANY WAY related to the shooting in LAX? It isn’t. Get. A. Life. People.

  • Thomas, Snarkmaster General

Okay, you Leftist morons. Let me spell it out for you.

    It’s. A. Fake. Gun.

  • Jack Deth

    Jeebus…

Grant was holding a blank firing Broom handle Mauser in his avatar. A Boer and WWI museum piece that George Lucas’ prop department tricked out for ‘Star Wars’.

No wonder L. A. is King of the Candy A$$ towns. And San Francisco is its Queen.

  • Rob Denham

Liberalism pussifies everything. We’re in the thrall of the most liberal presidential admin in history. The admin sets the tone for the country. There you go.

  • Richard Nightwood

    Sissy, man up.

  • Jim

I wish Han Solo had been there with his blaster when the shooter showed up. He would’ve shot first.

  • Lillian Frances Burdette

    *sigh*

  • CasualMeyhem

Geez, now all the gun nuts are gonna run out and buy a Blastech DL-44
