President Trump had wanted “the bill to include limits on social media companies” and he “opposed language allowing for the renaming of some military bases”:

The override of the veto of a $740 billion defense bill was a stinging rebuke weeks before President Trump's term ends. He wanted the bill to include limits on social media companies and opposed language allowing for the renaming of some military bases. https://t.co/ISI2kVUB36

President Trump ripped the Republican Senate for this missed opportunity:
Our Republican Senate just missed the opportunity to get rid of Section 230, which gives unlimited power to Big Tech companies. Pathetic!!! Now they want to give people ravaged by the China Virus $600, rather than the $2000 which they so desperately need. Not fair, or smart!

Senators Perdue and Loeffler, who both voted in favor of the bill previously, were not in attendance for today’s vote. Sen. Perdue is in quarantine because of a Covid contact, Sen. Loeffler is in Georgia ahead of the Jan. 5 runoffs:
The Senate officially overrides the President's veto of the NDAA but without the help of David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.
Both did not vote on the measure.
Perdue is in quarantine after a covid exposure.
Loeffler just wasn't there.
Both voted for the measure originally. https://t.co/koAAQxmD31— Ryan Nobles (@ryanobles) January 1, 2021
Others not present today were Senators Gardner, Graham, Jones and Sasse:
