Former president of Estonia not happy with Tucker Carlson's segment on NATO and the Baltic states

Toomas Hendrik Ilves, former president of Estonia, is not happy with Tucker Carlson after a segment last night where the Fox News host questioned if the “average American” knows our NATO commitment means “we’re on the hook” to defend the Baltic states from an attack from Russia:

Ilves noted that Estonia, which is a NATO member, sent troops and suffered casualties in support of the United States in Afghanistan:

From the article where Carlson asked if the U.S. should use resources to defend “the territorial integrity of Estonia”:

Carlson played clips from several “neocon” and liberal pundits and officials who warned that President Trump is playing with 25th Amendment fire if he considers such actions.

Carlson said the Soviet Union fell more than 25 years ago and that the Russian Federation that replaced it is in no state to “invade” western Europe.

“Why shouldn’t we have a debate about Article 5 [which] obligates us to defend other [NATO] states?” Carlson asked David Tafuri.

He asked why the United States should commit major resources to something like “the territorial integrity of Estonia.”

And here’s the bit about what does or does not the average American know about NATO:

“That’s what we’d be obligated to do,” Carlson said. “In other words, our kids get to die for Latvia because it somehow protects the rule of law to do that.”

“Does the average American know we’re on the hook for this?” Carlson said.

Carlson is getting criticized over his comments, but we expect a poll asking Americans if they support sending troops to the Baltic states to defend against a Russian invasion and potentially WWIII would not go the way people like former Russian ambassador Michael McFaul think it will go:
