So yesterday the nonpartisan Twitter account for the annual Easter egg roll posted pics of this year’s eggs, including a premium gold one for sale on website of the White House Historical Association, a “nonprofit organization […] founded in 1961 for the purpose of enhancing the understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the Executive Mansion.”
The @WhiteHouse wooden eggs are available in blue, yellow, pink, and green for $8.50 each. The gold egg is $14.95. pic.twitter.com/b9wNb7G3op

The gold one sells at a premium, natch:

And then reporters immediately made the eggs partisan, because Trump. Julie Davis from the New York Times:
Forget those silly pastel/rainbow colors of White House Easter Egg Rolls past; Trump's Easter eggs will be GOLD https://t.co/G3eeHmutnJ

Edward-Isaac Dovere of Politico got who is selling the eggs wrong:

Bloomberg View’s Tim O’Brien mocked Melania’s signature:
FLOTUS appears to have changed her last name to "Jimmy." And Trump loves himself some gold: https://t.co/bU86rdF0M9 https://t.co/faMAgbcz2d

AV Club’s Dennis Perkins called Trump “delusional” over the “gilded” eggs:
This delusional egomaniac branded and gilded the Easter eggs. https://t.co/lMuRy5uAuZ

And Chris Lu, a former Obama admin guy, jumped on as well:
Great metaphor: Trump tries to kill golden goose of health care & environment. American people get gold-painted wooden eggs for $14.95 each https://t.co/s05mxkuSrO

Now for the history lesson. Former president Obama had a gold egg, too:
Appears my memory of Easter Egg Rolls past was wrong. Seems Obamas had a golden egg too — not a Trump innovation https://t.co/zectzLccyC

Before people get too bent out of shape about the gold White House Easter Egg, they had a gold one for sale last year, too pic.twitter.com/0BP3Ul2zfD
