You might remember Republican Sen. Jeff Flake and Democrat Sen. Chris Coons working together during the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, which even culminated in a joint interview on 60 Minutes. Well, the old band is getting back together, this time to make sure the Mueller investigation proceeds indefinitely:
Expect Sens Coons/Flake to head to the floor at 4:15 pm et and ask the Senate to immediately start debate on a bill to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Senators from both sides are worried about Mueller’s future after the firing of former AG Sessions last week.

But at this point it doesn’t look like Flake and Coons’ efforts are going anywhere:
Flake asks "unanimous consent" for Senate to start debate on bill to protect Mueller. McConnell objects, blocking consideration of the bill. Flake now on flr, defending Mueller investigation. Flake effort tied to Sessions firing last week.

We expect an objection on the flr to the Coons/Flake gambit to protect Mueller. That means the Senate didn’t defeat the Coons/Flake bill. It means the Senate rejected the inquest by Coons and Flake to even consider it.

Flake & Coons tried to force a vote on the bill to protect Robert Mueller. McConnell shut that down. https://t.co/SiMTyVbsvA

Flake also floated this threat:
Oh damn: Flake says he won't vote confirm any more judicial nominees — in committee or in the full Senate — until the Senate gets a vote on the bill to protect Mueller. If it gets a vote, it's likely to pass: https://t.co/SiMTyVbsvA

Well, there it is. But Flake’s retiring and leaving office soon so that threat might ring rather empty on the GOP side of the Senate.
