Republican Sen. Jeff Flake announced yesterday that he would not be seeking re-election, and he had strong words about President Trump and the state of DC politics. In a speech on the Senate floor yesterday, Flake called Trump “reckless, outrageous and undignified.” Today Flake softened his tone somewhat:
“I don’t think any of those remedies are justified," says @JeffFlake about removing @POTUS by impeachment or the 25th Amendment. pic.twitter.com/ALsfz4nS21

Should he be removed from office? "I don’t think any of those remedies are justified … I do think members of Congress ought to speak out" pic.twitter.com/2oyvgAtytF

Flake’s speech yesterday won praise from the other side of the aisle (including journos), but his words the following morning have let down those hoping for Trump’s removal from office:
Yesterday I applauded Sen. Flake for his courageous speech. Today I'm embarrassed I believed him. https://t.co/2LZAfoW2yL

You should really make your mind up, Jeff. He’s either a threat to everyone and a likely cause of World War 3 or he’s not. (Hint: He is)

Then what? Why even give the speech @JeffFlake if you’re not going to act? https://t.co/gHiPG9ZWyp

Ok..Thx 4 nullifying your speech. Jesus, moment you give em credit 4 slightest damn thing they can't even keep selves from backing off that. https://t.co/l1MckTQcLV

.@JeffFlake
I liked your speech about our political culture. Your opposition to removing @POTUS from office does not rise to the occasion.— Earl Brewer III (@ejbrew3) October 25, 2017
It's not taking a stand if you're just sitting and saying empty words, sweetie https://t.co/voQZLzw8dn

FFS, Jeff… you gave a whole speech about what a disaster he is, but you won't stand up to him. Get a damn spine before you run away.
