Mary Mendoza made news in 2014 for writing to President Obama after her son, who was a Mesa, Arizona police officer, was killed in a head-on crash with a man in the country illegally who was allowed to stay even after having been taken into custody on several charges.

Mendoza spoke tonight at the Republican convention, and actor George Takei wasn’t a fan of how she was presented:
