As Twitchy reported, ABC canceled the “Roseanne” reboot after ABC decided that Roseanne Barr’s “abhorrent, repugnant” tweet didn’t align with the network’s values. And to be frank, her tweet targeting Valerie Jarrett was abhorrent and utterly uncalled for.
News that the show had been canceled broke just before 2 p.m., so we’re not sure what cast member and producer Sara Gilbert, who played “Darlene Conner,” knew about the future of the show at the time she tweeted this:
This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love— one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.

Sounds fair to us: the show was canceled over Roseanne Barr’s tweet, but that’s going to put a lot of people out of business — including the writers.
Or at least it sounded fair, but a lot of people called out Gilbert for claiming that Barr was “separate and apart” from the show, while others dragged her for even working with Barr in the first place.
The show is called "Roseanne". https://t.co/Pw2OqaUHtP

You could have walked away. You could have salvaged honor. Now the world knows your standards are for sale, and you're unemployed. https://t.co/047VpuXSFE

An ongoing feature of whiteness is the construction of innocence.
A show called "Roseanne" about a character named "Roseanne" is somehow not to be sullied by just "one cast member" (who also happens to run the show & reap its profits & rep it in the world) named…Roseanne. https://t.co/UbTD4v1kjl

Seriously, spare me. You can't elevate and profit off the views of a racist transphobic monster and then claim you are not part of the problem. https://t.co/nQ90uQib3k

"One cast member"
That the show is named after,
That created the opportunity for the reboot of the show based on following the trumpet of a racist demagogue that is tearing our nation apart.
Sara Gilbert is getting paid very well right now,
She is #Complicit https://t.co/0Z8XfgX0AH

Just kill off @therealroseanne's character. Have her shot off camera by a gun toting white supremacist wearing a maga hat. We will all watch now that she is gone. When you lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas https://t.co/jsT86Z4BNV

Your cast chose to hitch yourselves to her wagon knowing exactly who she is. It's not an ensemble comedy when the show has a namesake, and when that namesake goes down in a pile of flames, you all go with her. How is this at all a surprise? #Roseanne https://t.co/d1GFdjq3sn

Have you spoken with her, Sara? Where is your shock and anger with her? https://t.co/b4RKMNRmh4

Some people were willing to give Gilbert and the rest of the cast and crew a break:
This is a shame for all these folks like cast members and many others earning a living who had nothing to do with one person's dumb lapse of judgment. So many others end up paying a big price, even viewers who now won't have a show they really liked… https://t.co/VWgXrQnLq9

This. Roseanne was not the whole show, writers worked hard to craft a believable continuation that many fans were desperate for. Gilbert and Goodman in particular gave some amazing performances. https://t.co/gKXpsthCt8

I'm so upset that this is reflecting upon you, the cast, and the crew, Sara. It's pretty obvious that her opinions are ALL hers and nobody else's. I hope nobody is personally attacking you or anyone else for the stupid things one person has to say. We know where YOU stand. ❤ https://t.co/larf7hUfNR
