John Glenn laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors

John Glenn — Marine, astronaut, senator, and the first American to orbit the earth — passed away last Dec. 8 at age 95, but was laid to rest Thursday morning at a rainy Arlington National Cemetery.

Several photos posted by the cemetery’s official Twitter account serve as a reminder of one of Glenn’s most remarkable yet least talked-about accomplishments: his 73-year marriage to wife Annie, who was front-and-center at the service. Today would have been their 74th anniversary.
