President Donald Trump’s planned trip to Milwaukee, Wisc., Thursday to deliver a speech on the economy has been called off, reportedly because Harley-Davidson, which was supposed to host the event, was uncomfortable with the threat of protests.

From my calls, Trump's visit was far into the planning stage. Multiple local entities were in the loop before the plug was suddenly pulled: https://t.co/5ijqg8DnQY

According to an administration official, it was Harley-Davidson’s discomfort with the idea of protests that led the White House to cancel the trip. For its part, the company pinned the following tweet to its home page Tuesday afternoon:
Love for freedom is the bond we all share. This is not a partisan idea. If you agree, like and retweet. #UnitedWeRoll pic.twitter.com/2oJYIppMKU
— Harley-Davidson (@harleydavidson) January 31, 2017
It might not seem like a partisan idea, but love for freedom is wide open to interpretation: to some it means the freedom to travel freely from country to country, while others might consider it the right of a free people to control their country’s borders.

it's really disappointing that a perceived strongly American company would buckle under hysteria and PC pressure. #MAGA

Bye, bye Harley. I'm done with you. I've had Harleys for over 30 years. Never again. Way to alienate your base.

Update:
The Daily Beast’s tweet is awfully ambiguous in terms of which party expressed reservations over protests:
