Jeb Bush gives low-energy but powerful smackdown to the Facebook leak of his father's Hillary 'endorsement'

Quite a few journalists and pundits on social media found it “remarkable” earlier this month that former president George H.W. Bush had broken with the Republican Party and endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. A Bush voting for a Clinton? Amazing!

The breaking “exclusive” claimed by both CNN and Politico caused quite a stir, but we at Twitchy weren’t quite so impressed. The “endorsement” came via a Facebook post by Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, daughter of Robert Kennedy, appended to a photo of her posing with Bush at a fundraiser. “The President told me he’s voting for Hillary!!” she wrote, employing even more exclamation points than Jeb Bush’s campaign logo.

Maybe he is voting for Hillary, maybe he isn’t, but let’s just say a Facebook post didn’t really convey the gravity that a formal press release would have. It seems we might have some common ground with Jeb Bush, then, who didn’t employ any exclamation points when commenting on the incident, but was clearly displeased with how it was handled.

Bush suggests that his father’s age and health might have played a part in the endorsement, which initially comes across as a little desperate; then again, the man certainly knows his father better than we do.

But spreading the word on Facebook like a pre-teen Hillary fangirl? That did seem inappropriate.

Check out that last tweet … Jeb and his exclamation point reunited — something we never thought we’d see.
