The release of R. Kelly’s new CD, “Black Panties,” resulted in a lot of press (and tweets). Not all of it was fawning reviews; Slate ran a piece called “R. Kelly, Terry Richardson, and the Power of the Bankable Creep.” As Slate notes, Kelly “has been accused of raping dozens of teenage girls” and “indicted on child pornography-related charges.” (Kelly was acquitted by a Chicago jury.) He also has recorded a duet with Beyoncé and performed with Lady Gaga at this year’s AMAs.

As their headline suggests, Slate’s Amanda Hess also took on creepster photographer Terry Richardson, the man who recently convinced Miley Cyrus to ride a prop wrecking ball totally nude for a music video. As Slate notes, “[Lena] Dunham has, however, been photographed by Richardson; he is a hipster staple and also her friend.” So, has Dunham compromised her feminist credentials?

Some did more than just imply it. Take Michelle Malkin, for example.

Overnight?

As Malkin wrote last month:

The silence is deafening. A depraved photographer accused of abusing and exploiting young models enjoys access to the entertainment industry’s hottest female stars, from Rihanna to Lady Gaga to Beyonce to Miley Cyrus. He counts “progressive” feminist celebs among his most intimate friends. He’s even photographed President Obama. But when confronted with his sordid history and career degradation of women, these elite friends of Terry have nothing to say.

Jeez, I hate to have to defend her, but she actually accepts her mistake. Do we not even allow such an admission?

    • Heather_A

I’ll allow it with a jaundiced eye. It’s not like Terry Richardson’s pervyness was a secret among lib feminists, known only to a few. Hell, it seems to have been an open secret. Lena Dunham was in those circles and she wasn’t a neophyte model fighting to make it. I know how pressure to fit in, not to spoil a party can be. But sometimes, you gotta be an immovable object that she swears she is as a feminist. I think Lena needs to be confronted by the next girl Richardson ruins and have to apologize for her cowardice. It’s what they expect of us… I’ll pull an Alinsky and expect it from them.

      • tjack

i would even grant someone the excuse of naivete but with her parents and background no way. Like most lib elites her actions are for her benefit and hers only.

        • Heather_A

That’s what gets me. She *knows* these people. She grew up with these people. I understand it was a double edged sword, that calling out the people of your circle can cause you to lose your circle, but isn’t that what happened to all these people that the left idolises? All the people whose quotes they tattoo and in their name they give?

I mean, Mandela was a commie, but was willing to be thrown in jail and he wasn’t sure he was getting out, either… and you can’t risk losing a couple party invites? ,#GirlBYE.

What is the attraction with Terry Richardson? I had to Google him a few months ago to see what he was all about, and it seems like he’s just a creeper perv who gets his kicks taking pics of girls (nearly) naked.

Or did I miss something and he was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize or something?

    • aztectrumpet

Agreed. And I think Michelle was a little out of line by continuing on like that.

      • tjack

Nothing wrong with trying to engage and Lena wanted nothing to do with it. If Lena wants to be a leader with a million plus followers than she should accept the responsibility that comes with it.

        • grais

          She imagines she’s a feminist…when it’s convenient.
She’s actually the antithesis of a feminist.

      • WilliamAmos

Michelle was pointing out Lena’s hypocrisy in condemning R Kelly and ignoring someone else she had actually worked with.

        • $19701396

And kept at it after Lena acknowledged her mistake. Don’t pretend that this isn’t personal for Michelle. We’re not stupid.

          • WilliamAmos

Her mistake of supporting R Kelly not the other person.

          • $19701396

This is what she said: “I responded asking that my feminism not be picked apart because of one PR experience. You don’t learn to say no overnight.” She’s referring to Richardson.

          • Stephen K

Yeah, well talk’s cheap. Let’s see what she has to say the next time she collaborates with Richardson.

As always, it comes down to, “Yes he’s a creep, but he’s our creep.”

          • $19701396

Sadly, that’s true. Woody Allen and Ted Nugent are good examples of that.

          • NRPax

I don’t recall Ted Nugent having sex with his stepdaughter though. Do you have a news story available that I’m unaware of?

          • $19701396

He became the legal guardian of a 17 year old who he was having sex with in order to marry her.

          • NRPax

Ah. And from what I found, the parents were the ones who consented to it. Yep. That’s sleazy.

          • trixiewoobeans

But it’s “different” to them if you’re a talented, artistic creep! Woody Allen has already been brought up, but I remember the fairly recent Roman Polanski debacle, where many were excusing him because of his “talent.”

          • Stephen K

I remember that too – the left introduced the concept of “rape-rape” to excuse Polanski.

          • Unknown User

It wasn’t one PR experience, her best friend was dating him and she’d gone out with Terry dozens of times. Even in her acknowledgement of the issue she’s untruthful and minimizes her involvement

          • Dolphieness

Not personal. It is showing hypocrisy for what it is. Spot lights are needed at times. Especially with the left who think errr erase that .. do not think… yet support the very things they are supposed to be against.

        • GoldsteinsBook

Malkin started out by claiming Dunham is a hypocrite but was unsuccessful when Dunham described being pressured by the very predator about whom Malkin calls a sleazeball. Instead of backing off and apologizing to Dunham, Malkin continued to taunt and antagonize the successful young woman who regrets being manipulated by Richardson. Malkin had a nice laugh because she ‘ran off’ a woman who fell victim to a much older man with a history of using his clout to manipulate young women.

          • ForTheRepublicOfDave

She doesn’t regret a damn thing. The only, and I mean ONLY reason she even mentioned it is because it may come back to bite her. In fact, the only reason she even MENTIONED TR in the first place was because she claimed that someone said her views on R. Kelly were invalid because of their photographs. Also, that history you mention? Exactly why that “don’t learn to say no overnight” excuse won’t fly. She knew, and she didn’t care.

      • Maxx

Hypocrisy doesn’t enjoy an hour glass. Dunham remains judgmental yet wants to scurry under the protective guise of “I’m not immune to pressures?” She knew damn well who he was and what she was doing.

        • http://www.IKnowbo.com/ Slam1263

          And that is it Max.
The young lady has made her mark as being an overzealous attack dog.
No one has ever been able to beg forgiveness under her, odd, sense of what should be.
She’ll run and hide, lick her wounds, and come back just as vicious.
I don’t think she has ever apologized for a few comments she made of Ms. Malkin.
So much for the myth of the Sisterhood of Feminism.

      • Marcy Cook

Awwww what’s the matter? Little chubby, sloppy, foul mouthed Lena can’t take the heat?

      • marssnw

The problem is that she is a feminist when it is convenient for her political stance. She is a hypocrite.

    • Dolphieness

No, As a brilliant feminist – she should know better. It is not as if it was a secret that he is a huge pervert.

      • Brian Roastbeef

This. I’m not even slightly supportive of the feminist movement, neither am I one who follows fashion, but even I am aware of and disgusted with Terry Richardson and his perversion. The creep takes naked photos and screws underage girls who think they’re going to be models because of it. This is pretty close to common knowledge by now…

    • caradoc

You’re feeding the cult of apology. She knew what she was doing and only cares now that it might hurt her personally. So she does the standard liberal “I’m sorry but I’m really a liberal just ask Alec Baldwin” routine and it goes away. But if anyone other than politically correct tool of the left goes there they get Duck Dynasty’ed.

    • Unknown User

I’d buy it more if she wasn’t still “chill” and hanging out with him. It wasn’t just the photo shoot it was her continued friendship with him

    • stuckinIL4now

No, she isn’t accepting her “mistake” because her behavior isn’t changing. She’s just making excuses and has zero self-awareness of her contradictions.

Dunham was busted publicly for her hypocrisy or she would not have ‘fessed up. She is a hypocrite of the worst kind. She shelters perverts yet proclaims to be a supporter of women. She is from an educated, intellectual family and does not have the platform of ignorance to stand on. She actually really does know better. The thing is … she thinks she is better and more intelligent/sophisticated than others. She has not learned – she uses it as a crutch. Martin Bashir: “I’m sorry I got fired for suggesting someone defecate in Palin’s mouth in response to her making a comparison I myself made.”

Hillary Clinton: “I’m sorry that Christopher Stevens didn’t try harder to warn me about what I should’ve already known, but hey, what difference does it make at this point?”

Al Sharpton: “…” (Yeah, he can’t even offer a half-hearted apology for the bulls*** he pulls.)

Roman Polanski: “Yes, I drugged and raped a teenager, and then skipped the country, but Harvey Weinstein forgave me.”

Bill Clinton: “I’m sorry that I got caught. That’s all. Aw c’mon, that’s the most honest thing I’ve ever said.”

Someone who truly has it all together has the self-respect and self-esteem to keep her panties on and stay away from creeps.
