It was a kinder, gentler Alec Baldwin than many of us are used to, and just minutes into the premiere of MNSBC’s “Up Late,” even Howard Kurtz was wondering where the Twitter meltdown was. Instead, MSNBC viewers were treated to an hour-long interview with New York mayoral candidate Bill De Blasio, whom Baldwin introduced as his early choice for mayor. That’s no fun.

Yes, a love letter to Bill De Blasio set in a fake diner.

Shouldn’t he be wearing a hair net if he’s going to be working in a diner on Friday nights?

So, how are the early reviews?

I thought his show was going to be about parenting tips? What happened to his proposed show, “Father’s Day With Alec Baldwin?”

    • floridavet

With a special segment on “How To Leave Encouraging & Uplifting Voice Mail Messages.”

  • Maxx

Yet another MSNBC show about as exciting as midget porn.

  • Republicanvet

Phil, you can back off on the ratings investigation now. Alec’s show is on.

    …on second thought…

    • bluewaternavy

I was wondering why he didn’t investigate the reason MSNBC has such ghastly ratings. if he’d watched Baldwin, he have his answer…..

  • Jeremy

These two lefty losers deserve each other.

    • Republicanvet

I said, WHAT’s in YOUR wallet?

    • Steve__Jacobson

Not quite ready for the UFC.

  • Jeremy

Did he take the set from “Happy Days” for his show.

    • rssllue

It was the only set left that MSNBC could recycle for the show. They were originally going to use the apartment set from Laverne & Shirley, but then they realized that it had been actually sublet to the Big Ragu, so they had to go with plan B.

    • Andy from Beaverton

I was hoping to see Oleg from 2 Broke Girls serving some slop.

  • JeffWRidge

It looks as if Baldwin has learned about Bistromathics and had his set designed to exploit this exciting field of science. Just wait, soon he’ll be doing shows explaining theoretical physics.

  • Republicanvet

Diner set? That looks more like a security booth with monitors of security cameras.

  • ObamaFail

To everyone saying Alec Baldwin’s show is boring, you just wait until he gets mad at a black or gay guy and goes on a racist or homophobic rant on live tv. Then it’ll be exactly like his twitter account!

  • michael s

I guess James woods didn’t take issue with Comcast hiring “bigot” Alec Baldwin, like he did al Sharpton. Could it be that woods is ______, no it can’t be.

    • Kickass Conservative

I guess mikey s has never posted about being against child molestation. Could it be that mikey is a ________?

  • TJCrane_NCC1701

Up late with Alec Baldwin = Oh crap, l fell asleep with the TV on and rolled over on the remote and changed the channel…..

Sorry to add to his ratings…..

  • Guest

What’s with that set? Can you imagine Alec chatting with foreign dignitaries and US Senators in a sitcom diner? Yeah, neither can they.

  • Thomas, Snarkmaster General

On the plus side, coma wards have seen a spike in the number of patients coming out of their comas…to change the channel.

  • floridavet

“Up Late with Alec Baldwin,” also known by its alternate title, “Up Late With A Root Canal.”

The photo of the diner set looks like the same one used for Bill Engvall’s “Country-Fried Home Videos.” At least that show was funny.

And people say that Stephen is the one with no talent?

  • waterytart

What we’re seeing here is a lame attempt to re-brand Baldwin’s image as a prelude to a political career.

Excluding myself, people might take him a little more seriously, had he not styled his hair to resemble a stag beetle.

  • socalcon

    Alec, coffee, and schwetty balls.

  • yourmamatoo

Another low rated MSDNC show already becoming another failure.

    MSNBC couldn’t afford a set.

So they saw a diner closing down, and well…….

  • Jack Deth

Dinner settings worked for IFC’s ‘Dinner for Five’.

With upscale restaurants and after dinner discussions between Jon Favreau and old and current movers and shakers in Hollywood. The episode with Roger Corman, Bruce Campbell and Rob Zombie is a classic with great stories and advice from Corman.

    Alec Baldwin…. Not so much.

  • Ted H.

Does it make me a “rude, thoughtless little pig” if i DON’T watch his show?

    Call me, Alec

  • Reverend Ken

    Up late with WHO?

  • DRB16

    He Has A Show. WOW!!!!!!

  • Edward Cropper

the set isn’t the only thing fake.

  • SunsetLament

I think Baldwin is an a-hole, but this show was not terrible. It’s essentially Charlie Rose with a uber-liberal host instead of a moderately-liberal host. And I don’t get the hate for the set either. It’s not awful, it’s just different from what we’re used to. In short, I expected the show to be a trainwreck and came away saying “this is probably the most watchable show on the network”.

  • John Alvarado

They should just rename it “I suck up to Liberals, but am secretly am a racist with Alec Baldwin.”
