The Dream Defenders settled into the Florida state capitol building one month ago, refusing to leave until Gov. Rick Scott agreed to meet with them to discuss a repeal of the state’s “stand your ground” legislation. Scott was out of town at the time, but he sat down with the group’s leaders two days later and said no to a special legislative session to discuss “Trayvon’s Law,” reminding the group that normal legislative channels were available.

The “indefinite” occupation of the capital that followed attracted visits from Jesse Jackson, Harry Belafonte, rapper Talib Kweli and former NAACP chairman Julian Bond.

It appears that “as long as it takes” is one month, as the Dream Defenders announced that they’re decamping and moving on the the next phase.

On their way out, though, members of the group stopped by the governor’s mansion in Tallahassee to post an eviction notice.

The group insisted that they wouldn’t leave until they were victorious, so all it took to end the occupation while saving face was to claim victory. Even though they insist they’re only taking the next step on their journey, packing up their laptops and pillows and leaving the capitol still looked like quitting.

Group leader Phillip Agnew does have a job; the New York Times reports that the SEIU is paying his “small salary.”

These Anarchists should have been Evicted a month ago. They interfered with States business and other peoples rights

    • grais

Noooo. Let them have to give up on their own, having accomplished nothing.

It’s hilarious. Wish I’d been there to point and laugh as they left.

      • Catchance

What’s the difference between them and the OWS? Oh, right. NOTHING. They’re all the result of the Self-Esteem Movement. I wonder what kind of a pig sty they left behind?

        • grais

Did you watch their video up above?
          Looordee, kids are funny.

          • ZanyBaby

But then they grow up and are stupid.

        • Cy

Much less rape at this one I’d think.

      • Jeremy

I agree. I love laughing at these clowns.

    • objectivefactsmatter

You talk as though we live in a republic.

  • Arkuy The Great

As Harry Belafonte left the building was he singing “Don’t Stop The Carnival”?

    • ZanyBaby

LOL and Harry was their BIG name attraction … I can not remember any thing he has done.

      • freeinaz

He was best of friends with Hugo Chavez and continues to believe that communist/ Marxist/ and dictators are the future unless of course your not one of the select few. For a guy who hates America so much why is he staying? Funny how he’s not living in Venezuela or Cuba.

        • Arkuy The Great

He is not the first big name performer to be a Caviar Communist. His political career very closely mimics that of Paul Robeson; a big supporter of Stalin and the USSR but who never stopped performing in the USA. Shrewd businessmen all they know where their talents can be best remunerated.

      • Worship Dancer

did anyone notice they mentioned jesse jackson showed up in florida? hmmmm i thought he said he would NEVER set foot in florida until they repealed the stand your ground law? more lies come out of that racist mouth than ever before.

    • Worship Dancer

i thought it was send in the clowns? oh no wait it was send the clowns to sensitivity training.

  • ObamaFail

It shows how productive those people are. Obviously they don’t have jobs or lives, otherwise they wouldn’t have been able to camp there for a month like a bunch of idiots.

    • Jay Stevens

Living conditions there better than at home.

  • Jack Deth

    Hey, Dream Defenders:

Hope your moms have the decency to kick out their present live-in boy or girlfriends and let you back into your old bedrooms only AFTER you paid this past month’s rent!

    • IBXNJ

And take that ugly ass mural with you!!!!

  • BoscoBolt

Goodbye, smelly welfare trash. Have a nice day!

    • Jay Stevens

  • RLEE

Fist “black” POTUS in history and the left and all these idiots that believe their BS act like we are back in the 50’s geess!!! I really am getting totally fed up with this race stuff!! What happened to Obama helping heal the racial divide oh yea he really is pro-divide!!!! LOW LIFE RACE HATER

    • GaryTheBrave

      Fist “black” POTUS in history

Maybe that’s what Reggie Love does.

P.S.-I didn’t think Reggie Love was a real person. I thought he was the skinny version of The Nutty Professor that Eddie Murphy played.

  • ceemack

“Excuse me for minute, fellow protesters. Gotta start a movement.”

    • Jason Call

Light matches while you’re in there, ok?

      • Worship Dancer

are we sure that won’t cause ahem other problems like needing EOD?

    • Jay Stevens

Do an OWS and leave it. No, wait. No police cars parked inside the building.

  • grais

If there was ever a group of people who should be wearing clown suits…

    • Chevypowered

      More like prison suits…

  • Zach Smith

“After 31 days and 30 nights we will indeed be leaving the capitol to enter our next phase.”

That would be the pupal phase, after which they will emerge as fully formed butterflies.

    • tjack

Moths, I think, would be more accurate.

      • IBXNJ

        From maggots to flies!!

      • Worship Dancer

        roaches or mosquitoes

    • grais

      Watch the video.
They’re going on a bus(!) to get some Happy Meals(!!!)
And the word is : Power. And they have it!
      They’re ‘flourishing!’

      • thetreyman

and it’s true because they said so.

      • Worship Dancer

        with their EBT cards.

  • TJ

Who are they sending the bill too after they have to repair the floors and clean up the trash. Make sure they take the propaganda panting of Trayvon with them.

  • Duke

If only they spent 31 solid days looking for a job, or trying to actually help break the stigma of ‘Snitches get stitches’ in their communities.

  • WendyOh

They need to occupy a Boys and Girls Club – teach young people how to act instead of reporting to violence.

    • Jay Stevens

More like “teach people how not to act”.

      Bad examples are still examples.

  • DeadlockVictim

Should have held a “special session” involving tear gas and nightsticks.

  • Bemani Dog

Dream Defenders were not really looking for a special session.

They were looking to be evicted. They were looking to be thrown out, during which they would resist as violently as possible, so they could claim their human rights were violated.

The worst they can complain about is not getting food delivered after hours.

Gov. Scott did the right thing; the smart thing. He let the idiots have an unrestricted soapbox. It’s right out of the philosophy of John Locke.

Dream Defenders lost. They didn’t get what they wanted, either in fantasy or reality.

    • Glen Hull

Agreed. Scott handled it beautifully. My only complaint was that he let Jackson get under his skin. A simple “consider the source” would have been a perfect response to anything Jackson babbled.

      • Jay Stevens

I keep thinking he could have done more:
Kill the wall outlets – no power for battery chargers.
Turn off any free wi-fi hotspots.
        Install low-powered cell phone jammers.
        Turn off area a/c.
Go to emergency lighting at night.

Yes, some of those things will cause other problems, but nothing that cannot be solved.

But I agree with you. With school starting in September, Gov. Scott can simply ignore them because they will be gone by September.

  • ZanyBaby

Pick your battles wisely. You won’t be shown the same tolerance in the future.

  • ZanyBaby

Can’t wait for their “Boycott” to start and nice tourist can feel safe in our state again.

  • Medicinewoman2

    No class with trash!

  • Dragomance

My guess is that a lot of these “Dream Defenders” needed to start getting ready for the new school year.

    • objectivefactsmatter

They admit upfront that they’re delusional. They’re not the “constitution defenders.”

  • John Kerry’s Forehead

Claiming victory? Oh, they must be part of that liberal crowd who don’t keep score in youth sports and everyone gets a trophy.

  • Thomas, Snarkmaster General

Julian Bond said the Dream Defenders are starting a movement. They may have started (and left) a few in the Governor’s office…

  • therealguyfaux

SEIU– this would be the parent organization of “Local 12, Villains, Thieves and Scoundrels Union”?

  • objectivefactsmatter

Weird Al seems determined to get his way this time.

    • TheOriginalDonald

He always seemed white and nerdy to me 😛

  • stuckinIL4now

The Obumuh Effect–merely claim victory and it is yours.

  • The Penguin

What a f*ckin joke. They should have been charged rent.

  • WhoMeToo

30 days. That’s all it takes to break them.

  • Sky MKinley

    Oh man, no cookies! WTF!

  • Glitter

I wonder if they trashed the capitol.

  • Glitter

I wonder if they trashed the capitol.
