Sarah Palin certainly doesn’t mince words when criticizing President Obama, but there’s something particularly stinging about the former vice presidential candidate calling out the man who was once on the short list for 2016. That photo of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid hugging Sen. Marco Rubio following the Senate’s vote on immigration reform is destined to feature in countless campaign ads against Rubio; at least today’s thank you phone call from President Obama wasn’t caught on film.

If Rubio goes all the way and switches parties like Charlie Crist, he might even enjoy the coveted Obama fist-bump.

  • Bill Board

I’ll bet, unlike Judas, Rubio wouldn’t return the 30 pieces of silver.

    • Joe W.

      Nor will he hang himself…

      • Bill Board

I think he just did..metaphorically speaking!

        • Clete Torres

Politically-speaking, anyway. At least from a ‘taken-seriously-by-Conservatives’ standpoint.

        • jetch

when Rubio runs for president and reid gets in front of the senate to say that Rubio is a liar and cheat and didn’t pay his taxes, Rubio may realize his mistake…

      • jb

but maybe drown himself with a big bottle of water?

    • ArtieThe1

Judas did return the silver. Rubio wont.

      • brewerandpatriot

Can he Western Union that silver back to Cuba?

      • Bill Board

I believe that is what I said.

    • Dutra

If McCain had a son, he would look like Rubio.

      • my2centshere

Very good, but I was thinking he’s morphing into Charlie Crist.

    • PeriMedic

      Then hung himself.

    • RalphTheCat

And he will probably not claim it on taxes either.

  • http://www.spacecoastconservative.com/ SpaceCoastConservative.com

He probably went for half that.

    • brewerandpatriot

It probably only took a handful of churros- which can be party-deceivingly delicious…

      • brewerandpatriot

My apologies: I switched up my racist food references. I should have said cocqitos.

  • mickeyco

Don’t much care for Ann Coulter or Chris Christie, but right now I feel like she did when she said Christie no longer existed for her. Marco no longer exists for me. Such a let down.

    • Emily B

I had such high hopes for him….

      • twolaneflash

I don’t know why. I never saw any greatness in him, or statesmanship, or patriotism. Rubio is just another minority-pimp looking for advantage and special privilege. Illegals are his people, not taxpayers like me.

        • BAW

It seemed to me that he explained conservative beliefs and principles extremely well. Too bad he either didn’t believe what he preached or he was willing to abandon all he knew was right for political reasons. The first is bad (like lying McCain) the second is worse, as low as it gets, in my opinion.

          • Clete Torres

0bama also sold hope and change extremely well.

          • BAW

True but sold is the key. He didn’t explain “hope and change” since it’s meaningless. Hopefully, conservatives always need more than hot air before we “buy” it. Sorry I bought Rubio.

          • Mtr Mann

I have my money on Ted Cruz, he a constitutional conservative. Besides, Rubio is too short and unpresidentially “boyish”.

    • ClintonDryCleaners

I can’t think of anyone else who had such potential but who threw it all away in a monumental act of career suicide.

  • Lady 12

I wish Twitchy wouldn’t use that pic of Rubio. It reminds me of the time when I actually liked him. Remember – “There is only one savior, and it’s not me. #Jesus.” Those were good times… Sadly, long gone.

    • Jeremy

Yeah he fell for all the B.S. and it has destroyed his credibility.

      • Lady 12

Which is too bad – I was really excited when that water bottle thing took off! And then, poof… Politics choked him. I have a Rubio bumper sticker lying around my house just in case he ever comes around, but I doubt it will ever be on my car.

        • Blake Waymire

I keep hoping he’ll come back around, but after this immigration vote, that hope isn’t very strong.

          • BAW

I was hoping he’d come to his senses. I was hoping he would not abandon everything he said he stood for. I was hoping he would abandon the people who supported him, right up until he voted for the bill. I’m done.

          • Joel Macejak

Hope – as we all know by now – is cheap. Results are what counts. We can now see clearly where Rubio stands, illustrated largely (in this case) who he chose to side with – and who he chose to stab in the back.

          • PeriMedic

How could you trust him if he did?

          • Joel Macejak

NOPE. Stick a fork in him. Wait……I’ll do it. He’s DONE. Few things in this world are worse than betrayal – especially to those who WANTED to put their trust in you. You SUCK, Rubio.

        • http://amandakmelson.wordpress.com/ GreenEyedGal

Even if he did “come around” how could you trust him? He said all the right things to get elected and then gave all his voters the finger. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice… I’m not giving him a second chance.

      • Conniption Fitz

He obeyed his Bush overlords…supported Romney and now the Bill that will destroy the US

She would be such a good politician if she would just stop talking. Besides this will die a slow death.

    • gary4205

You would be such a great commenter if you would do it over at the Daily Kos where you belong!

Palin is the ONLY one with enough balls to say what must be said

      • Not Anonymous

No, she is the only one with no political career to worry about. In fact the majority of congress finds her laughable.

Beyond that, I sort of like her. I just feel when she says these bible bet toned comments, it makes her sound less credible.

I agree totally with her sentiment, it’s just could have been said more powerfully.

Now all the mainstream media will do is post her comment with big quotes, painting her as some religious loony; instead of her having an actual effect with a valid comment which pointed directly at the misdeed of the regime.

        • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

When you are an actual conservative you don’t give a damn what the mainstream media thinks of you. Caring about them leads to guys like Mitt Romney, Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, John McCain, and Lindsey Graham who are spineless jellyfish who sold out their principles for their image and political gain. If you stand on principles they will shine through.

          • Catchance

Well said, Ben Bollman, thank you! If conservatives would proudly tell what they stand for and why, they would continue to be elected.

          • George

I believe Sara Palin is the only political figure with any backbone. If she were in the white house instead of that POS this country would be in a lot better shape!! I’m sure I wouldn’t be paying $3.60 a gallon for gas…

So, Shogun – how should she have said it where the MSM wouldn’t portray her as loony? Maybe if she hadn’t have mentioned 30 pieces of silver, they wouldn’t portray her as a “religious” loony, but they’d still portray her as loony. They’d never let her have an “actual effect”, no matter what the comment was.

        • Arkelk

Shogun American, I think she used the single short reference that most people would recognize. The Christians to whom the betrayal is still kind of personal (the betrayal of Jesus by Judas still hurting, I mean), and those who understand the cultural reference of someone in the inner circle selling out someone for monetary gain.

While the parallels are not exact, it was an effective way of calling him a sellout without being crude.

There is a better fitting quote from Jesus “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” [Mark 8:36, KJV], but that would keep Palin’s point from being more widely understood. And besides, I think she wanted the treachery angle.

        • http://amandakmelson.wordpress.com/ GreenEyedGal

Oh they should be in shackles. Obama, Holder, Hillary.

I just think Palin makes herself sound less intelligent than she could with the cryptic bible rhetoric.

But I guess that’s her crowd. She is a big part of why McCain lost, people seem to have forgotten that.

In my eyes, she is just as responsible for Obama being in office as all the uneducated whites voting for pseudo political correctness.

Go check out the obamascandals blog its a hoot. You get a little sick when you get to number 300, but its definitely an eye opener. Cheers.

Ummm. McCains ratings skyrocketed when Palin was chosen. It was the media lies and McCain himself that brought him down

They “skyrocketed”, until she opened her mouth a few times.

Good lord, they crucified her with some of the stupid rhetoric she said. Go watch her interviews back then, its an embarrassment to the GoP, hah.

I actually like her, except for the cheating Alaska out of hundreds of millions with the bridge to nowhere scam, but I think she definitely needs to reign in that impulse to say preachy things. If she is going to do anything in Politics.

Yes, people who never heard her say much, loved her. But, she says a lot of silly hair brained comments. It’s just a fact. Stuff that sounds cute, but really has no impact on anything.

Do you see her near congress? No.

People won’t touch her with a ten foot pole. Because you never know what kind of goofy uninformed comment she is going to make.

And “Libs” dont stab their own in the back? Really? You can go back in just the last 15 years and find example after example of both parties turning on their own kind, for the sake of voters or special interest dollars.

And to say different makes you sound very naive to the reality of political behaviors.

Sarah Palin has many years (successful) executive management experience at local, regional and state levels including command of the Alaska National Guard and has a history of being a reformer and taking on powerful interests for the benefit of ordinary people.

She has always been a tough-as-nails executive who understood her role as a servant for the people during her time as Mayor of Wasilla and as Governor; she took on the Republican establishment, big oil, corruption, ethics reform, and tax reform.

In Alaska, Sarah Palin’s top priorities included fiscal restraint, limiting the size of government, resource development, education, equitable oil valuation as well as transportation and infrastructure development. Sarah Palin fought for ethics reform and transparency in government.

She has cut spending, forward-funded education, and paved the way for job growth in her hometown.
Sarah Palin has fought to reduce spending and to enforce fiscal discipline as governor of Alaska. She has drastically reduced the growth of the state budget, which has helped to produce a record budget surplus.

She cut spending and vetoed hundreds of millions of dollars in spending, not because times were tough, but because she wanted to keep government small and solvent.
She reformed Alaska’s pension system and used surplus dollars to help pay down underfunded pensions, which reduced Alaska’s liabilities by 34.6 % to help provide analysts at Moody’s with enough confidence to later upgrade Alaska’s credit rating to AAA.Sarah Palin has fought to reduce spending and to enforce fiscal discipline as governor of Alaska. She has drastically reduced the growth of the state budget, which has helped to produce a record budget surplus.

Standard & Poor’s raised Alaska’s credit rating from AA to AA+ in April 2008. Then in 2010, both Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s upgraded Alaska to AAA for the first time in the state’s history due to policies enacted by Palin that made the state’s finances more than solvent.
She also reduced earmark requests for the state of Alaska by 80% during her administration.

Sarah Palin succeeded to a remarkable extent in settling what had seemed insoluble problems, in the process putting Alaska on a trajectory to financial well-being.

            This is strong financial management.

Under her leadership, Alaska has invested $5 billion in state savings, reformed education funding, and implemented the Senior Benefits Program, which provides support for low-income Alaskan seniors. She’s also established Alaska’s Petroleum Systems Integrity Office to provide oversight and maintenance of oil and gas equipment, facilities, and infrastructure.

Sarah Palin’s “business experience” comes with the negotiations and dealings she has had with one of the most powerful industries in the world: the energy industry. Sarah Palin has successfully negotiated new tax structures, lease deals and other issues that arise in the Alaska energy industry.
At the end of the day, Sarah Palin negotiated billion dollar deals with one of the toughest industries in the world.

Taking on corruption and crony capitalism has always been a cornerstone of Sarah Palin’s agenda; in Alaska she did take on the old-boy network — the oil companies and her own party .
As oil and gas commissioner, Sarah Palin called out the unethical practices of members of her own party.
As Governor, she sought to end the back room deals and improper relationships between oil companies and politicians.

Sarah Palin is past chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multistate government agency that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment.

She also served as chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) Natural Resources Committee, which was charged with pursuing legislation to ensure state needs are considered as federal policy is formulated in the areas of agriculture, energy, environmental protection and natural resource management.

After poring over thousands of emails (24,000+ pages of emails) from Palin’s term as governor, even the mainstream media has been forced to concede that Palin was a conscientious, transparent, and effective public servant.

The reality of how closed minded you are is this:

I actually like Palin, I simply said she commonly makes herself sound like a moron with her comments. 9 times out of 10 she is probably not even writing the comments, but they don’t help her.

It is a fact that could not be more solidly iterated than by the fact that she has not had one connection to congress since her run for VP. Because she is uninformed and sort of a verbal loose cannon.

Believe me I WISH she was as credible as you seem to believe she is, but the proof is there. Most legitimate politicians find her to be a waste of party affiliation and pretty much a joke.

The media went through pages and pages of Palin Emails (24,000+ pages of emails from Palin’s term as governor), looking for damning information that could wipe Sarah Palin from America’s political scene.

What they found was the inner workings of an efficient, informed and very involved governor that mounted an unprecedented 80 plus approval rating while in office…..not exactly what the death squads of WaPo, the NYT, and other mainstream outlets had in mind.

The Palin Emails (24,000+ pages of emails) show that Sarah Palin conducted the business of her state in a transparent, bi-partisan, and responsible manner. She worked long, hard hours and treated everyone with respect.

There were no sex scandals, no lewd twitter photos, no misuse of taxpayer dollars, and no malicious behavior, whatsoever. Just a governor doing her job.

This scenario is in sharp contrast to the manner in which the media handled Barack Obama, whom it woefully failed to properly investigate in 2007-08.

Sarah Palin has been attacked and scrutinized like no one else; she’s probably the “cleanest” politician out there.

There has not been one aspect of Palin’s life and career that has not been chewed over, criticized and lied about by her enemies; she has withstood the slings, barbs, bullets, and arrows that would have fallen a lesser person.

Soon after Palin entered the national political scene as Arizona Sen. John McCain’s GOP running mate, she was attacked as a diva, a clothes hog, an irresponsible mother and a political mercenary. They dismissed what she achieved as mayor of her hometown, commissioner of the state’s oil and pipeline board and governor of America’s largest state.

Sarah Palin’s enemies decided that nothing was too personal to attack-including her marriage, her children, her faith, and her wardrobe.

The media distorted Palin’s positions and beliefs beyond recognition. And almost every word out of her mouth was spun as a “flub”.

The media hounded her, and her family, on a daily basis, flat out making crap up (like that she, personally, shot wolves from the air). They claimed her baby was not her own; used despicable language to attack her, and her family; sent numerous reporters to Wasilla to dig up dirt on her ; AP reporters “factchecked” her book; accused her of being an accomplice to murder, her email hacked by the son of a Democrat congressman, political operatives filing endless bogus ethic charges designed to bankrupt a working family with a special need toddler and much more.

Probably every Democratic out there … but that rules out “legitimate”.

          • Deborah Hallsted

She managed to balance the state budget in two years, and published it online so people could see where their money was being spent. That was a great move for her state. And her downfall was not so much due to her own words, nor her own comments, but the lampoonings of Tina Fey, who either manufactured “hair brained” comments, or took partial sentences and skewed them to sound as ridiculous as possible. The liberal press repeated them, and fact that she appeared to be her doppleganger only confirmed them as Palin’s statements to the low information voter.

Mccain Lost because he is a Liberal……and conservatives don’t want to come out to the polls to support more liberalism like McCain and Romney…….if the GOP keeps putting in Liberals it is the same as voting for democrats in our own party…no point. The GOP is weakened by liberalism….America is weakened by Liberalism….because Liberalism is coercion and dependency…which equals…failure…..Liberalism=failure

“She thought NK were our allies.”
            ———–
            That is not true.

It was obvious from her preceding remarks during the interview that this really was just a slip of the tongue
The slip op the tongue part of a much longer segment in which she clearly and repeatedly referred to South Korea as an ally of the U.S

The media could even have done due diligence and checked Sarah Palin’s previous statements on the Korea subject, which have always been consistent, and in fact even ahead of the curve.

Let’s just go back to Sarah Palin’s public comments about North Korean Missile Testing on April 6th 2009

April 6, 2009, Juneau, Alaska – Responding to the missile test by North Korea, Governor Sarah Palin today reaffirmed Alaska’s commitment to protecting America from rogue nation missile attacks.

“I am deeply concerned with North Korea’s development and testing program which has clear potential of impacting Alaska, a sovereign state of the United States, with a potentially nuclear armed warhead,” Governor Palin said. “I can’t emphasize enough how important it is that we continue to develop and perfect the global missile defense network. Alaska’s strategic location and the system in place here have proven invaluable in defending the nation.”

“I am talking about at least a dozen interviews over the course of two years.”
            ———–
It seems that you are are poorly informed about Sarah Palin. Don’t believe everything the media and Hollywood is telling you about Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin has offered many statements on issues such as health care, the Federal Reserve’s money printing in funding our federal deficit, Crony Capitalism, energy independence, foreign policy, etc)

She went to India , Hong Kong, World Knowledge Forum in South Korea ,etc where she talked about the economy, the deficit, government spending, gun control, the environment, the rising cost of food, energy, Egypt and other foreign policy related issues. She did unscripted Q&A’s

She was the first Republican to make a high-profile critique of the Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing, though even earlier she had marked the collapsing value of the dollar as one of her issues.

She has repeatedly been a leading voice—via television appearances and speaking engagements—against the dangers of ObamaCare and the risks of President Obama’s approach to energy.

“except for the cheating Alaska out of hundreds of millions with the bridge to nowhere scam”
            —————
The Bridge to Nowhere was a state project, to be built with an earmark by the state’s powerful U.S. House dinosaur and lifetime pork barreler, Congressman Don Young.

Sarah Palin used to support the bridge. When she saw that the project was becoming astronomically expensive she killed the bridge. In fact, the Alaska Democratic Party gave her credit for doing so.

She wisely declared that the money be spent on more “fiscally responsible” projects.

Palin was ultimately responsible for making sure that the money acquired from Congress was not squandered on a bridge whose cost grew far higher than originally.

By the way, Palin cut earmark requests by more than 80% during her tenure as Governor.”!

I like Sarah…always have…but she is no more qualified to be President of the United States than the former junior senator from Illinois, was. Perhaps in time, she could be but right now, all I see and hear is a reminder of how easy it is to pontificate freely from the sidelines, having no tight rope to walk politically. We have much stronger candidates from the right with the background appropriate for the task at hand though I most certainly see a place for Sarah in such an administration.

I also like Rubio…always have. However, in his effort to bring more Hispanics to the party, I hope he doesn’t compromise his core principles. We do need to broaden the party, that much is clear. However, immigration reform should have followed border security first, not the other way around. He should of treated this issue like Reagan did with the Cold War in that success came as a result of strength, not weakness.

Immigration reform won’t be reform at all until the borders are secure. Anything else is just a voter drive for the left.

Many crooks are still in prisons.

2 – Gov. PALIN defeated 3 biggest and most corrupt Oil Co. in the world,
the crooks who had Alska politicians in their pockets for decades.

3 – Gov. PALIN cut spending and Alaska budget by 9.5%, in real dollars.

4 – Gov. PALIN left Alaska Treasury with $14.5 billion surplus, unheard of…

5 – Gov. PALIN’s economic policies increased Alaska credit rating from
AA to AA+ to AAA, for the first time in history.

6 – Under Gov. PALIN leadership Alaska was #2 in jobs creations,
      while Romney’s Massachusetts was #47.

7 – Gov. PALIN had up to 93% approval, record in American history.

8 – In 32 months Gov. PALIN accomplished everything she promised
to people of Alaska and much, much more….

No Governor had so much acheivements, in any state – at any time !

SARAH PALIN was the very BEST Governor – EVER..

Sarah Palin is a self-made women with an impressive career who broke into politics without the head start of a powerful husband or father.

She has demonstrated a willingness to fight for what she believes in, even if it is within her own party.

She took on the corruption in her party and state and she stood side by side with candidates across the country in 2010 and 2012, often against the wishes of the entrenched GOP establishment.

Sarah Palin has fought to reduce spending and to enforce fiscal discipline as governor of Alaska. She has drastically reduced the growth of the state budget, which has helped to produce a record budget surplus.Standard & Poor’s raised Alaska’s credit rating from AA to AA+ in April 2008. Then in 2010, both Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s upgraded Alaska to AAA for the first time in the state’s history due to policies enacted by Palin that made the state’s finances more than solvent.

            That is strong financial management.

As governor, Palin fought for and signed sweeping bipartisan ethics legislation, which restricted lobbyists, improved disclosure laws, and improved executive and legislative branch ethics laws. In the face of corruption, she continued to take on her own party when it was necessary.

      • Maxx

…and yet she added absolutely zero to her ticket when chosen as McCain’s running mate. A self-imploding disaster, unseasoned and thrown off her game by what….a Katie Couric question for Pete’s sake? Hell, I’m a Republican and I WOULDN’T vote for her. She wasn’t ready then and clearly she isn’t ready now. Her odds of winning the nomination about as strong as Rand Paul’s and the sooner you “our way or the highway” so-called conservatives who are destroying the party from within realize it, the better. Go ahead…let’s see how many general elections we’ll win alienating minority voters.

Live and learn folks. How many Presidential elections do YOU want to lose before it sinks in?

Cue the negatives from the starry-eyed.

        • TEXs

          Maxx the PDS suffering fruitcake:

” How many Presidential elections do YOU want to lose before it sinks in?”

          • Maxx

What is this obsession of yours with fruitcake? And the Pavlovian PDS asinine reference? Good grief, you are as unhinged as most of the others that are the root cause of why conservatives are struggling to remove the dead weight your lack of intellect is causing this party. Like it or not, Palin is the main reason Obama won in 2008, having driven moderates and independents…along with Hispanics and minorities away from the party. Go back and study your history. Look at the percentages conservatives garnered from minorities and Hispanics when Reagan and Bush won…and then compare those numbers to when Palin ran with McCain…and further when Mitt ran. The right is hemorrhaging and you’re too imbecilic to realize it. Keep being a Palin apologist and see where it leads you….straight to another Clinton in the White House.

Anyways….I’m done here. I can’t waste any more of my time trying to educate someone who with nothing but time, retorts with fruitcake commentary to every soul who disagrees with him. And people wonder why we keep losing? It’s nonsensical displays of ignorance that have become the face of the party and you’re apparently its new poster boy.

I take some comfort in knowing not a large group of locals here seem to agree with you much (looking at the post count/votes). That is reassuring. Perhaps there is hope in 2016 after all.

Finally…Palin in 2008 was akin to that one Christmas present men my age always seem to find under the tree. Oh sure, nicely gift wrapped in a tidy bow but once the wrapping was removed, we were looking at a six pack of crew socks.

Run along now Tex…back to your “fruitcake” fan club.

“and yet she added absolutely zero to her ticket when chosen as McCain’s running mate.”
          —————
Sarah Palin was the only thing that kept McCain competitive. When she was brought on board, the enthusiasm immediately changed.

Where McCain had struggled to fill an arena, lines outside events featuring Palin seemed miles long.

Polls show a sustained 6 point bump for the campaign, one that put them ahead of Obama for the first time, right after Sarah was chosen, and gave her masterful speech at the Republican convention.

McCain would maintain this lead until the financial meltdown, and he decided to suspend his campaign to head off to Washington without a real plan of action. It was a fatal mistake and one a smart campaign manager would have advised against, but we’re talking Steve Schmidt here, so smarts don’t enter into the equation.

In Pew’s exit poll in 2008, voters who said Palin was a factor in their vote went for McCain by a 56-43 margin!

Sarah Palin energized the Party, and carried Senator McCain farther than he could have possibly gone without her.

Schmidt mismanaged the McCain 2008 presidential campaign by advicing McCain to suspend the campaign during the financial crisis and then tried to rewrite history afterward in order to falsely blameSarah Palin for McCain’s loss.

Steve Schmidt was able to scapegoat Sarah Palin for his own disastrous ineptitude despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. That was because the media hated Palin and her popularity was perceived as a threat to their Party.

Many of us voted *for* her as well as *against* n0bama and BiteMe in the 2008 election; before McShame picked her, it was just a vote against the Democratics, not for the RINO. Sarah Palin is a self-made women with an impressive career who broke into politics without the head start of a powerful husband or father.

She has many years (successful) executive management experience at local, regional and state levels including command of the Alaska National Guard and has a history of being a reformer and taking on powerful interests for the benefit of ordinary people.

2.‘Falsely claiming citizenship on Form I-9′

3.‘Knowingly altering a Social Security Card’

4.‘Document fraud to prove eligibility for employment’

If you believe the allegations of Social Security, foreign student and birth certificate fraud by Obama, don’t you find it incredibly convenient that the list above just happens to be exactly what Obama is guilty of?

Rubio, once the darling of the Tea Party needs to be dumped by them.

just gotta love palin, what other former politician talks honestly like that?!? all the people calling her a “quitter”, well i’m glad she quit. she wouldn’t be allowed to speak so honestly if she were still a governor, and right now we need people like her!

That Rubio so profoundly betrayed the people who supported him, all to sit back and allow Schumer to ride him hard and put him away wet…… to WRITE the DAMNED BILL… and then to go on the air and lie to us about how THIS TIME… the dems will actually keep a “promise”…

He’s DONE.. wouldn’t vote for this sellout if he was running against Satan.. I’d just move to Texas and beg them to secede from the Empire.. Hell… just dump Cleveland and get my Buckeye state to join them, they can have the ten blue counties.. we’ll keep the 78 red ones..
