We’ll admit that, while it dwarfed the size of your average Sandra Fluke rally, the size of the “crowd” gathered outside the the NRA’s annual meeting at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, is not a scientific indicator of the public’s support for gun control legislation. Still, that figure of 90 percent public support that gun control advocates keep throwing around does seem awfully high, especially when you consider the equally anemic turnout for the tiny Stop the NRA march in Washington, D.C., last month.

All right, it is early yet. Let’s give them another four hours to get things rolling.

For a moment, at least two of the “protesters” were gun enthusiasts crashing the party.

Some photos from one of the protestors give an idea of the signs on display, as well as confirmation of the relative intimacy of the gathering.

Just to keep things in perspective, Touré would like to clarify just how tiny the NRA’s membership is.

OMG!!!! Look at all the tens of people!

    • http://twitter.com/HotRodFan899 Gary Freeman

Using liberal math, I have determined that those people are the majority of Americans in this country.

      • http://twitter.com/die_mich_zwei Spatial Awareness

        You misspelled ==> Morons ~_^

      • Judy B

        Using Common Core math, obviously

    • BlahBlah

      I think you’re mistaken. There’s 90% of them.

      • http://twitter.com/die_mich_zwei Spatial Awareness

        90% of 10? ~_^

        • BlahBlah

No, just 90%. It’s a number. We just don’t know what it is.

        • radicallyalyssa

90% of half of Americans that kind of agree half of the time! YEAH!

      • Jeff Smith

Always remember – 76.5% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

        • BlahBlah

          I’d say you’re about 86% correct.

          • http://www.facebook.com/corey.dennison Corey Dennison

42% of all people know that!

    • tops116

More people showed up to a “Company You Keep” screening.

Yet less people took Peter Schiff’s offer of a job at the Zucotti Park/OWS demonstration, so there’s that at least.

    • CatHerder

Yep, that’s about right. When we left yesterday afternoon there looked to be maybe thirty of them, but a lot were carrying big cameras and boom mikes so they might have been media.

      • http://www.facebook.com/demrossi David E. Rossi

Those cameras—were recording all the criminals and buyers of guns for criminals who were attending the Not Reasonable at All ‘convention’. Later, those individuals will be in court. And, how many of the convention delegates do you think were undercover security agents identifying those same criminals? Think you’re smart because you have a gun and a mouth? Think again, murderers and their facilitators.

        • mickeyco

          You’re a fool.

You as a fool, drinking our prez’s Kool-Aid and watching the blue screen antic’s of cnn have been brainwashed into believing that any Law Abiding American is a killer, go waste your liberal bs on someone that wants to hear it, and its not here…….

    • HindaRifka

Listen to the comments from these brainiacs bit.ly/13W8R6u Great thought provoking statements like “only criminals should be allowed to have guns” and the always popular “trailer trash” when speaking of gun owners.

  • CR

Almost as empty as the press box at the Gosnell trial, and that’s really saying something!!

  • Frustrated Teacher

That 90% number baffles me. It is one thing to slightly stretch a number to make your side look better or more powerful, but that number was SOOOO far out of the realm of credibility that nobody with half a brain took it seriously! Obviously a solid block of Dems in Congress didn’t!

    • Jason Call

Forsooth. @BarackObama pushes a petition asking U.S. Congress to pass new background checks. 750k peeps have signed. That’s about zero-point-two-five percent of Americans.

      • Frustrated Teacher

I could just hear Slo-Joe B….”That’s gotta be like a bajllion percent of Americans!!”

      • Nergal

750K I’ve seen Facebook posts with more likes than that.

    • thetreyman

well, 90% of the people in the US support background checks. this is probably true because most people know we already have background checks. so it all depends on how the question was asked. like if they asked, do you support criminal background checks for anyone who is purchasing a firearm? i can see that number being at 90%. but if you ask, do you support background checks for private firearm sales, such as, ones not bought from a licensed gun dealer? that number is going to drop. then if you ask, do you support background checks for any gun transfer, even between family members, through gifts, sales, or part of an estate transfer through a will or trust? the number on this one will fall through the floor.

      • Frustrated Teacher

So either they were lying about the number, or they were lying about the MEANING of the number…it all adds up to left-wing lies to disarm more people who disagree with them…

      • Judy B

Precisely, how the poll question is framed, pre-determines the outcome,

      • Native American Potato

Turns out also from reports from many sources that the poll they keep quoting was from a progressive polling firm that only polled a few thousand people in a hand full of states and only states that had voted predominantly Obama in 2012.

    • stuffitnow

And the wapo with their bs about the NRA have less membership then they say, wtf do they know! Their readership has fallen to less then 50 liberals reading their bs on the crapper!

  • 1SkepticalChick

Wow! A Saturday as beautidul as today usually has lots of people at the Discovery Green Park. DGP is across from the convention center, and has a huge underground parking area to service the convention center. That makes this a double whammy for libs. No one showed up for their protest, and they ran off the crowd usually there on a Saturday. Looks like the yoga people even stayed away….wait, maybe they’re all at the convention!

  • CDUB

Patriots, pat your self on the back and continue to fight, for a constitutional right we shouldn’t need to fight for – The 2nd Amendment.

If they combine their protest with code pink and Peta they may have four dozen protesters!! Fight the Power!!

  • Okie_pastor

If Peta and Code pink joined them they may have four dozen protesters! Wow! Fight the Power!!!

  • http://twitter.com/R_U_Srs Seriously?

My husband and I are both members. We chose to get one magazine that we share, so that more of our dues went to the NRA. I’m willing to bet we’re not alone.

Yes, but are there more than seven clippings in that magazine?

Actually lady, we the people ARE the NRA.

  • Tyrconnell

Went to the WP link that Mister “Everything White Do Is Racist” provided. Typical B/S, I am a Life Member of the NRA who hasn’t optioned a magazine .

  • Lola Aileen Vanslette

I am all for stopping gun violence. Try prosecuting the criminals! Why should the responsible, law-abiding citizens be punished for a few criminals, who don’t care about the current laws, that the judicial system keeps returning to society?

  • john mason

I plan on joining the NRA, but meanwhile, what’s the story behind that Godawful “sculpture” in the background? It may be based on Picasso’s Gurenica (the account of ww2 bombing, i think), but It doesn’t work in three dimensions at all. Looks like an Ice Cream Cake Meltdown.

    • CatHerder

It’s something the nutjobs brought with them.

    • http://www.facebook.com/garyalan.fink G. Alan Fink

‘Planning’ isn’t doing. I didn’t ‘plan’ to join the NRA when I was 12, my Father made that decision for me but today, I’m a Life Member. I’d say my Father’s not ‘planning’ to do something, influenced my life.

  • $472942

The local media should arrive at a 500,000 estimate soon…

  • brewerandpatriot

The 90% comes from a Quinnipiac (New Haven, CT area) survey of 1900 liberals taken twenty minutes after the Sandy Hook tragedy. I want to know where I can get that “Keep Calm and Pew Pew Pew” t-shirt.

  • John Brookbank

From what is said more camera men and news than people at this protest , LOL they should be getting NRA card to learn what America already knows , Our liberty is at pearl ! Do arm your self, do keep in tune with what lies are being spread about all. Obummer will not get our guns, not through tax’s ,nor through DHLS, UN, or laws, if he continues to push this rant, with his false flag events as a reason to control people, he will be put in jail at some point !!!

  • $27789750

People more worried about paying their bills and keeping their jobs. The flap about guns strictly a media thing. They hated to lose.

  • 702guy

Just wondering if most liberal protesters and occupy people actually have a real job? Something above at least 40k?

  • JR48

I love the ‘stop gun violence’ sign. Perhaps protesting in the middle of an inner city gang area would be more appropriate because that is where the bulk of ‘gun violence’, occurs.

    • 702guy

Yeah let her hold that sign up in Chicago ,IL. Who has the most strict laws on guns, But yet has the highest murder rate in the union..

  • sardiverdave

Why, people are staying away in droves!

  • http://www.drudgereport.com/ Strangelove

I noticed KTRK had close-ups of the protestors, but had wider angles of the Cinco de Mayo parade and the pro-Undocumented Liberals parade.

  • http://www.drudgereport.com/ Strangelove

Oh and when I arrived in Houston, there was only one protestor at the airport.

BTW: Is it me or has the story of the airport shooting completely disappeared?

As soon as I saw the HPD presser where they mentioned the guy was black, I knew the story was DOA. That was all she wrote.

  • JustLikeAnimals

I count 45 people and what looks like a mutt. But the mutt kinda looks like Sandra Fluke, which would explain the low turnout.

  • Ginger Whetstine

This is Common Core math, had it really been a majority it would be more like 1,000,000%.

  • NavyGunner

On Facebook at Bluebonnet Brigade I predicted a turnout of about 14 people, it looks to me like they might have made it up to that many, serially but not all at once.

  • Guest

It was smaller than the annual convention of the Queen Pelosi Fan Club

  • Dan Morgan

Come on folks! You all know that as high as 86% of all statistics quoted are made up on the spot to make writer look smart!! Did it work? It might have been 91%!!! I haven’t made up my mind yet!!

  • almarquardt

Considering all the fingers in the photos, it’s a good thing they don’t own firearms. They would have shot their fingers off!

  • Divemedic

They claim that the NRA doesn’t have over 4.5 million members, because the circulation of the member magazines as released by the publisher last year falls short of that number.

The NRA claims that this is because

1: many members don’t get the printed magazine. The Washington Post’s editorial board finds that hard to believe. I don’t get the printed magazine, neither does my brother, my son, or my ex-wife. All are NRA members. I just don’t like getting piles of mail. Many people don’t. I know that is hard for a newspaper to understand, but that is why their readership is declining as well.

2: and there was a surge in memberships after the President announced his gun control plans in the wake of Sandy Hook. The Washington post is also skeptical of this, saying that they would have had to increase their membership by half a million in less than three months. Well, since January, I have sponsored, gifted, and cajoled 2 new life members and 6 new annual members. Half a million doesn’t sound like that much of a stretch to me.

  • Dexter2433

i just bought 1000 rounds of ammo and in the process i donated to the NRA so go smoke that in your pipe libs

  • Penelope Blair

I think the “protect our children” sign lady meant to point it TOWARD the convention…

  • http://www.facebook.com/lawrence.malcolm1 Lawrence Malcolm

So that’s what that was….I just thought they were just a gaggle of panhandlers when I passed by there..’course I sneezed and probably missed 75% of them…LOL

  • Jeremy

meanwhile lame stream media won’t show the small numbers of course since it destroys their narrative.

  • SturJen

On a side note: WHAT THE HECK IS THAT THING BEHIND THEM??? Oh please tell me that’s not ‘art’!?!? It’s hideous, gaudy and looks like a construction crew barfed it’s contents onto the street. Oh please tell me some tax payer somewhere was not on the hook for that monstrosity!!

  • agroulx

Maybe they should have called Sandra Fluke and all of her 15 followers hanging out in the parking lot next door. – But what is “protection” if it is not knowing how to use a gun responsibly? These people don’t even think about what they are saying.

  • James Blair

90% of the rabid anti-gun crowd showed up

  • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

90 percent of the Libturds in Houston came, made a little noise, and left…. Jawamax 8<{D} (Not many Libturds in Houston, are there?) XD
