Remember when Warren Buffett’s secretary was invited to the 2012 State of the Union address to serve as the president’s human prop for raising tax rates on the wealthy? Well, it didn’t work. The president and vice president released their tax returns today, and President Obama’s effective tax rate went down last year, to around 18 percent. That’s closing in on Mitt Romney territory, and we all know he was getting away with something.

Two questions immediately spring to mind. First, is that really Obama’s fair share? And second, can we have that rate too?

https://twitter.com/Patriot762x51mm/status/322833795860549632

Vice President Biden reportedly made about half of what Obama earned, and yet his fair share turned out to be around 22 percent — still a much lower rate than Warren Buffett’s poor secretary was said to be paying.

The president did confess to Jay Leno that he’s “pretty lost” when it comes to that “math stuff.”

Check out their $103,871 donation to Fisher House. I’d like to see proof.

And does his stated income include the value of his taxpayer funded Presidential Perks (e.g. vacations, parties, personal staff, etc)?

    You can’t write this stuff…

    • TocksNedlog

But (apparently) you CAN write it off!

  • rivers

But I’ll bet he really, reeeeally wanted to pay more but just couldn’t figure out how!

Hey, he’s just doing what H&R Block told him to do.

      • lcky9

        that was TURBO TAX

Sorry, you’re right. He had Timmy Geitner run his numbers.

Rich liberals never pay the “fair share” that they think others should pay in taxes, and what’s more, they don’t think they’re hypocrites for doing so. Why, you ask? Because they dedicate their lives to making the rest of us pay more, and if you think that paying higher taxes is a good thing, then that means that on the balance they do more “good” than “bad”. It has a kind of twisted utilitarian logic to it, doesn’t it?

  • Michelle

Wait. What? You mean Barry doesn’t put his money where his mouth is? Shocking. And where is the outrage from the left and MSM over this lower-than-most percentage? They certainly raked Romney over the coals, so surely they’ll be doing it at any moment to the Obama’s, right? Right? Anyone? Bueller? *crickets*

    • TocksNedlog

      Chirp chirp

    • Elaine

Plus his net worth now in 2013 has risen to almost 12 million!

      • Tom Anderson

And with all those parties and vacations that he pays for, hes still making money. Go figure.

  • CR

For YEARS I have been hearing from this Commie Community Organizer that my husband and I do not pay our fair share.

Our income was 1/2 of what Obama’s was this year and we paid more than he did in taxes.

Our record of creating jobs: +5 employees

Obama’s record of creating jobs: -4.4 million during his first term alone and still counting.

    • Harry A

that would actually prove obama’s point to be honest. he is arguing that the rich should pay a higher effective tax rate, so complaining that he is richer than you and pays a lower percentage than you is an argument for the other side.

      • Maxx

Flat tax. End of story. Long overdue.

      • CR

Except he is trying to raise my tax rate further, not cut it. My problem with the tax system is trying to punish success through it and trying to govern people’s behavior through it. There is NO REASON why we should not have a flat tax. Everyone pays the same percentage. You make $10, you put in $1. You make $1,000,000, you put in $100,000. Everyone has skin in the game and everyone pays the same percentage of their income for the same service. The “rich” still pay more, but it is actually objectively fair, not some twisted liberal version of fair.

  • Gallatin

Well since obowmao arbitrarily picks income levels and tax rates all the time I can do the same, I think he should pay a 99% tax rate on his income, assets, every time he opens his lying mouth.

  • CR

Also, $600,000+ in income for doing nothing and we’re all supposed to throw him a parade when he takes a voluntary 5 percent pay cut in “solidarity” with those who took a 20 percent pay cut due to his sequester he created…

    • $46661540

I’m amazed that its only $600,000. I’d think his book sales would be more than $200,000 alone. Maybe the legend is crumbling?

      • Txgirlinnh

His book sales have plummeted. All the idiots got their copy already and everybody else that has a brain wouldn’t touch those books with a ten foot pole.

        • Tom Anderson

I read both his books when he first ran for office. I learned absolutely nothing about him personally, but it was clear that he was a progressive who believed that the USA needed to get knocked off its world leader pedestal.

          • Suzyqpie

I read his books. I learned that Pres 0bama ate Dog and said that in a pinch,I paraphrase , muslims get the benefit of the doubt, depending on the wind.

The 20% “pay cut” was given to charity. Which means he will claim it on next years tax return….a “win, win” for Obama!

      • Tom Anderson

What 20% pay cut? It was five and it went to the Treasury. No evidence that it can be or will be done, but it made for one heck of a sound bite for the MSM

    • Tom Anderson

He was only showing solidarity with government workers. The other 90 million unemployed/underemployed in the private sector can go hang as far as he is concerned.

  • Joe W.

My guess is that golf and golf lessons are tax deductible.

  • Squirrel!

How’d his taxes go down 2% while everyone else’s went up? SICK TO DEATH of these Moochy Mooching Moochers!!!

    • Tom Anderson

My income went down but both state and federal taxes went up.

      • Squirrel!

2% raise this year was a wash. Guess we should feel fortunate to have stayed where we were. Nonethless at less than a 6 figure salary, we paid more than 18.4%.

    • tops116

I suspect there was even more garbage buried in that last fiscal cliff deal.

  • http://twitter.com/Mrdrisc58Martin Marty Driscoll

    Fair Share My Ass..

  • John Howard

For income taxes I think a fair share FOR EVEYONE would be somewhere below 15%. More than that is simply a greedy government stealing from us.

    • lcky9

that wouldn’t work people on WELFARE don’t pay any taxes not even on food..

      • Tom Anderson

How did we ever survive before 1913 when they started imposing income tax? We had roads and bridges and schools and all the other infrastructure we have now. What we didn’t have then was a bloated government full of spend-a-holics.

  • Jim Denney

Did he take a home mortgage deduction on the WH? If so, I demand an audit; everybody knows he’s hardly ever there.

  • Kevin Sanders

Like all liberals , he is fake.

  • lcky9

Hubby and I don’t earn 1/6th of what OBAMA does and we paid over 28% WTF.. OH our mistake we raised the kids and they are on their own, so I guess the money we earn now we really don’t need like OBAMA and BUFFET does so they will take it for those that don’t want to work…

  • Bill Board

Obama says: “18.4% for me … but NOT for thee”.

    • Kate

Not for thee…with the exception of Buffet, Bloomberg, Jay-Z and all of his other Hollywood buddies.

  • http://yourdaddy.net/ NotaLemming

This is all so wrong. Lets add the 5% he is giving back to the Treasury to appear to be empathetic to those effected by HIS sequester. Now for the sake of EASY math, so democrats can try and follow along, we will add that 5% he is giving back to the 18.4% he paid for a whooping 23.4%. No don’t you all feel foolish?

  • Sketti

WTF, I don’t even make triple digits and I pay 22% in taxes! /reallypissedoff

  • overboosted

    TurboTax Tim Geithner must’ve done Obama’s taxes…………..

    .

    • tops116

While still not getting around to his own, natch.

  • neoface

People, I’m the dictator!!!! Do as I say not as I do. I’m certain the $600K is after all the deduction, not the gross, and 18.4% is after all the loopholes. Another of those “not in my back yard!” What happened to the tax hike for anyone making above $400K? Oh, that right, 77% of people saw their paychecks go down in Jan.
Let get serious, can you believe anything this incessant liar says????
Obama, no one is stopping you from writing another big check to the government, would be good to see you put your money where your mouth is. LOL!!!

  • Tom Anderson

So….. 30% tax rate for thee, but not for me. Practice what you preach Mr. President. Don’t take any deductions and you will be right up there with the rest of us. Lead by example.

Having said that I will also give the same argument that I gave when I was defending Romney. He paid what the law required. He took limited deductions so that he was not talking out of his buttocks and it is his choice if he wants to pay more.
Bottom line here; we need to go to a Flat tax or a Fair tax system. That is the only way that everyone will pay an equitable “fair share.”

  • Momo

The problem with pointing this out is that this feeds right into Obama’s argument for eliminating tax breaks for the wealthy. He has claimed that rich people like him pay less in taxes because the system is unfair. I’m guessing, that in the left’s minds, this will go toward proving the President’s point about the tax system being unfair and slanted in favor of the wealthy.

    • Tom Anderson

It fuels the class warfare argument for the lemmings, I’ll give you that. Thinking persons just see the hypocrisy.

      • Momo

It is already how some media and left leaners are spinning this news…hypocrisy never even occurs to them, I’m sure…

  • tops116

So, only an 18.4% rate *and* they get to live in the White House rent free? I’m just in awe of the “shared sacrifice.”

Well, I’m sure all those Obama supporters that bemoaned Romney’s taxes for months will be along any moment now to condemn this.

  • connbaby

Sooooo I have to ask. How much taxable fringe benefits do the Obama report? The value of personal use of employer vehicles, employer provided food, personal services etc? According to the IRS, even snacks and small awards are taxable. That would be one whopper of a tax bill if that were accurately reported. Could it be that tax laws that apply to the rest of us do not apply to them?

  • Mr. Shiroi

I still don’t understand what the word “fair” means in the President’s vocabulary.

Maybe he will blame all the people who pay an effective tax rate of 17% now as not paying their “fair share”

    Whatever..that…means

  • Grandma HeadInjury

Hmmmmm…there’s a certain commenter who really want’s to defend the Naked Emperor….a lot! I’m sure he’s trying to type something, but all I hear is “mmmph-mmmph-glrg-mmmmmph.” Got something in your mouth there, Slane?

  • Axelgreaser

OBAMA IS A ‘LEGAL’ TAX CHEAT in the tradition of many elitist’s, i.e., mother of ‘OWS’, 1/1.000.000th, system gamer Native American bamboozler Elizabeth Warren, bulbous communist Michael Moore, all of the MSM Obama evangelist’s, even kindly avuncular old Warren Buffet upon whose lap Obama sits as tax truant Warren tickles him and handshim a lolly, scoundrel and inside trader Nancy Pelosi, the ‘King Of The Double Standard’, Harry Reid, etc. All your big Dem squawkers for ‘justice, fairness & equality.’ Yet, Obama is a total Commie and Marxist, so his actions are in direct opposition with his message. But isn’t that what the new criminalized ‘paid-off’ Democrats are all about? What’s good for you, doesn’t apply to me? Obama and his wife long ago advanced from petty thieves to grand larceny. They don’t care if you know it. Now, about all those Dem attacks on Romney’s tax records. Oh, we shouldn’t discuss that, should we.

  • http://bizzybea.wordpress.com/ bizzy bea

One thing the media failed to tell us is that the Obama’s are getting a $16,815 tax refund. You can find his return here-http://www.taxhistory.org/thp/presreturns.nsf/Returns/69751C3E8B0DE0CD85257B4B00687AB0/$file/complete_return_president_obama_2012.pdf

What I am not understanding is why they claim a Foreign Tax Credit. Foreign Tax Credit is credit that is available to anyone who either worked in a foreign country or has investment income from a foreign source”. They did make donations, but then claimed it. If they wanted to lead by example, they should have left it out as well as other exemptions. Here is their tax form it has many pages.

Obama will give back $16,667 of his pay (5% give-back started April 1) and get $16,815 refund. Works out swimmingly does it not? Gotta love their account/tax lawyer. It’s a coincidence that his dated tax return coincides with his act of benevolence.
