Romney suggests two-parent households reduce likelihood of violence, actress Elizabeth Banks flips out

Context matters. Unfortunately, Banks seems to have forgotten that. Romney suggested tonight that children in two-parent homes are less likely to wind up committing violent crimes than children from single-parent households. The horror!

Rather than pausing to think about what Romney actually said, she took a page from Van Jones’ book and branded the candidate a “douche.” It’s discourse, guys! She took Romney’s remarks to mean he was denigrating single mothers and blaming them for gun violence, when, in fact, he was just telling the truth. Statistically speaking, the relative stability of a two-parent household versus a single-parent household correlates with a reduced tendency among children to commit future acts of violence.

Perhaps instead of being offended for the sake of being offended, Banks could try embracing facts instead. The truth is hard, but in the end, it’s worth it.
