Yesterday, former “Special Report” anchor Brit Hume tweeted out a Powerline post about a recent Gallup poll comparing Republicans’ and Democrats’ pride in America. CNN’s Oliver Darcy soon took notice and shared Hume’s tweet with this Very Important Food for Thought:
Worth keeping in mind that @brithume, who says in this tweet that Democrats “don’t love” America, is the longtime former anchor of “Special Report” — someone who claimed for years to deliver the news to viewers in a fair & balanced way. pic.twitter.com/Q1s37BKdDN

Holy sh— wait, what? Is there a scandal here or something?
Do you have any evidence he failed to do that during his tenure—before he became at liberty to express personal views?

Evidence? Ain’t nobody got time for that.
I don't expect journalists not to have opinions, kiddo. I expect them to keep them out of straight news reports. I had no idea what @BritHume was (politically) when he was on ABC News, for years and years. The same cannot be said of many of the Beltway and NYC ilk.

And for those years he did deliver fair and balanced news. Now he is a commentator, so he's commentating. Not too hard to see the difference unless you purpose choose to.

Are you suggesting his personal views, which he now shares, mean he didn’t do that?
Does that mean that the 90+% of national reporters who privately lean left can’t be fair or balanced? Because that would be an important admission… https://t.co/Nm4mWRccPu

Yeah, see, now that would merit some attention.
Friggin’ CNN, man.
Oh, and by the way, Hume deleted his original tweet because he felt it was unfair:
I deleted an earlier tweet that said Democrats don’t love America. It was based on a Gallup poll that found only a minority of Dems now very proud of this country. A number of people said they think that’s not a fair conclusion from the poll. I agree and thus the deletion.

Darcy might want to take a page from Hume’s book.
