When I saw the news that thirteen moderate Democrats are signing on to this 'Promise to America' pledge, I actually stopped for a second.
Checked to make sure the account posting about it wasn't a parody ... it happens.
But nope, it's real.
Rep. Tom Suozzi is leading the charge, and these folks are openly breaking from the Democratic socialists who’ve been running the show in too many places lately. Perhaps they figured out that Socialists are NOT their friends?

The pledge lays out some pretty basic stuff: strong borders, capitalism instead of socialism, and actual pride in this country instead of the constant shame routine we’ve gotten used to.
Shocking stuff, right?
Suozzi and the others are saying the far left has gone too far, especially after watching Democratic socialists clean up in New York primaries. They’re trying to draw a line and tell voters there’s still a version of the Democratic Party that isn’t all about defunding police, open borders, and rewriting American history.
I’m not going to sit here and pretend this fixes everything. These are still Democrats, and a lot of them have spent years voting with the radicals on spending, immigration, and cultural issues. But credit where it’s due — at least some of them are finally admitting out loud that the socialist wing is dragging the party into territory most normal Americans want nothing to do with.
The bigger question is whether this remains a press release or becomes actual votes and policy. We’ve seen moderates talk tough before only to fall in line when it matters. Still, the fact that they felt the need to organize and sign something like this tells you the internal fight inside the Democratic Party is getting real.
If more of them actually start acting on these principles instead of just pledging them, maybe there’s still room for a center-left that isn’t embarrassed by basic American values. But I’ll believe it when I see the votes.
