This thread from Brittney Cooper is something else, and not in a good way.
Honestly, it’s hard for this editor to understand this level of fear in general … but to put it out on Twitter just seems a bit much. Almost like a desperate cry for attention.
Which is probably what it really is.

No, WE are not reliving last year’s holiday conditions. If SHE is that’s her choice but most Americans are gathering with family, traveling (TSA numbers through the roof), and treating their holiday season as normal.

I am so angry about this. Angry about the ways I’m worrying again about my health and my loved ones health. And while I will always prefer a structural explanation over an individual one, I’m pretty mad at willfully unvaccinated folks (who don’t have health restrictions).

And real talk: you can persist in your holiday gatherings and such if you want to, but it isn’t wise. These government folks don’t want people to riot so they refuse to have the lockdowns we clearly need. So y’all take precautions. Seriously.

You know what, we have no idea what the point of that even is because even without gatherings, Omicron is spreading fast. And gosh, it doesn’t seem as severe and people aren’t dying. But you know, you willful mean people living your lives and making your own choices are the real problem here.
So take that.
And I will say that the one structural explanation that makes sense to me is that we did not build a society where people care about the collective good. So telling people to protect others didn’t work. Folks mostly only care about themselves. This is what that looks like.
