Dana Bash brought Tom Homan a New York Times dispatch about deportees who didn’t want to get off a plane in Liberia, and she read it like a eulogy for the handcuffs.
THE HORROR.
How COULD THEY?
These poor ILLEGALS!
*weeps openly*
The Border Czar’s answer was not the pearl-clutch she packed for Sunday. Allegations exist. ICE gets them by the truckload. What CNN is less eager to lead with is the part where threats against officers are through the roof and the people on that flight were fighting a judge’s order, not starring in a prestige drama.
One side wants you to adopt the guy who wouldn’t leave the aircraft. The other side is describing the job voters hired the government to do.
Guess which version made it to the teleprompter first.

Ten deportees. Liberia. They resisted getting off the plane. NYT says ICE yanked cuffs, pinned them, knees on necks. “Treated us like wild animals.”
Are you comfortable with that?… pic.twitter.com/d8wTsVWzxO
Post continues:
... Homan: I don’t think that happened.
Every agency gets allegations. ICE gets them constantly.
Then he dropped the numbers CNN never leads with:
Threats against ICE officers: up over 9,000%.
Actual attacks: up 1,400%.Officers are trying to stay alive while enforcing a judge’s order. A lot of people don’t comply. They fight.
Policy is minimum force necessary to get compliance. If someone went beyond that, Internal Affairs investigates. If it’s proven, there are consequences.
That’s not a dodge. That’s how real law enforcement works.NYT wants you to feel for the people who refused to get off the plane.
Homan is talking about the officers who have to put them on it.
One side is writing midterm ads. The other side is running the operation America voted for.
