There are reports of a shooting at the Fort Bragg military base in North Carolina.

Few details have emerged, but residents have been warned to avoid the area.

Twitchy will monitor the situation and update as reports come in.

Update: Law enforcement is confirming.

Prayers immediately go out from Twitter.

Confirmation, yet still few details.

Conflicting reports on lockdown status:

From Facebook:

That was perculal – Fort Bragg Official Facebook page posted something of the following: “If you live on Fort Bragg Historic Area (MacComb and XVIII Airborne Corps Headquarters), go inside immediately and secure your area” About a minute later, it was taken down….

Fort Bragg’s Facebook page right now:

Fort Bragg law enforcement is responding to a shooting incident on-post that occurred at about 3:30 p.m., June 28. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to avoid the historic district of Fort Bragg until further notice.

More details will be released as they become available.

Still conflicting reports as to whether or not the base is on lockdown.

Still not much confirmation of anything.

Some newspaper articles are reporting that a senior officer was, in fact, killed and that the shooter then took his own life.

The police are giving a press conference momentarily.

Here’s the latest from the press conference:

The U.S. Army has released a statement from Fort Bragg.

“This is a tragedy for our community. We don’t yet know the reasons for the shooting, but are working with the unit and the affected Families to help them through this difficult period,” said Col. Kevin Arata, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg Public Affairs Officer.

“Our prayers are with those who have been affected by this terrible incident,” Arata said.

We will continue to update you as information comes in.
