If Republicans are reluctant to serve in key national security and federal law enforcement positions in the future, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul believes the actions of former FBI director James Comey will have played a major role in deterring them.

The unchecked politicization of any part of federal law enforcement or intelligence agencies does damage to their reputations and discourages people who may hold to an unpopular ideology (unpopular in Washington, at least) from pursuing service.
