UPDATE
CNN’s Brian Lowry deleted his tweet smearing *film critic* Ross Douthat and apologized in Monday’s “Reliable Sources” newsletter:
ORIGINAL POST
CNN’s Brian Lowry is not happy with New York Times columnist Ross Douthat and his latest titled, “What ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘The Northman’ Mean for the Movies.”
Lowry tweeted:
“Once again suggesting film critics should promise not to write about politics if NYTimes oped columnists will promise not to do … whatever this is.”

Um, Ross Douthat is *also* a film critic for National Review and he has been for quite some time:
He’s been the film critic at @NRO National Review for almost two decades, you ignorant cretin.

Google. How does it work?
Dude. 😂🤪 go Google Ross and films. He has a “bit” of experience with this subject Brian!

Brian Stelter then added to the “face-plant” by this bit from Lowry in his daily newsletter:
Truly amazing face-plant by Brian Lowry of CNN when he says @DouthatNYT should stick to politics and not write about film. Ross has been the film critic for National Review magazine for nearly 15 years. pic.twitter.com/ei87LtJaR5

What an amazing self-own here:
“I know absolutely nothing about what I’m talking about”
— Kyle Smith (@rkylesmith) June 20, 2022
Both Brians should be ashamed right now:
“I won’t bother to dissect this column but I assure you my dissection would be amazing, take my word for it.”

And why shouldn’t a film critic write about politics?
Also, where is it written that nobody can have opinions about both culture and politics? Just irredeemable stupidity.

That neither Brian knows this is a problem:
And of course Ross has been writing film reviews longer than he’s been an op-ed columnist for NYT but CNN media team just unaware of stuff that happens in media

So, does Brian Stelter’s newsletter do corrections?
CNN media reporter Brian Stelter published this little bon mot in his evening newsletter, indicating that he, too, is completely unacquainted with the basic facts of people he writes about.

And, finally, “it’s the sheer stupidity that sticks out”:
