Memorial Day, which is the day America honors those who gave their lives in defense of our great nation, is often used by companies to help sell stuff. It happens every year, and every year it’s bad.
But this has to be one of the worst ads we’ve ever seen, via Real Simple magazine’s Facebook page: “6 To-Die-For Summer Sandals on Major Sale for Memorial Day weekend.”
Possibly the most tone deaf Memorial Day post I’ve seen. This is why the ridiculously low number of veterans or military family in the PR and Marketing fields is so painfully obvious. This is why you need someone like @ScoutComms on your agency team. Our clients don’t do this. pic.twitter.com/bDtRooAIEX

“To-Die-For” was later changed to, “Gorgeous”:
Looks like somebody checked their mentions finally. Have a good Memorial Day. It’s okay to enjoy it and have a blast. That’s how I want to be remembered but recognize what it’s about too. pic.twitter.com/UthVDCdUgp

Real Simple is also using Memorial Day to promote a hair style video…
…Sephora…
…and German supermarket chain, Aldi:
Sigh.
