In an interview last night with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said, “Our vaccines are working exceptionally well” and “They continue to work well for Delta, with regard to severe illness and death – they prevent it” but “what they can’t do anymore is prevent transmission.”
Fully vaccinated people who get Covid-19 can transmit the virus, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky says
Vaccines “continue to work well for Delta, with regard to severe illness and death – they prevent it,” she told @CNN “But what they can’t do anymore is prevent transmission.”

Data out of England backs this up, too:

Walensky followed up last night’s interview with this tweet saying, “If you suffer from a #COVID19 breakthrough case, you will likely only have mild illness and not be hospitalized, but you could pass the virus on to others”:
If you suffer from a #COVID19 breakthrough case, you will likely only have mild illness and not be hospitalized, but you could pass the virus on to others. This is why we updated our mask guidance recently. Learn more: https://t.co/IR303vv1Jf https://t.co/hj6cj9xmwv

But we need some clarity on if vaccinated people can spread COVID-19 to the same extent as an unvaccinated person, or else she just crapped all over the idea of vaccine passports.
Update
From AG Conservative:
Again, the CDC Director is currently the largest source of misinformation regarding Covid-19 vaccines. This is absolutely false. They have reduced efficacy against Delta transmission, but still substantial relative to being unvaccinated. https://t.co/RsV7CEHOAD
— AG (@AGHamilton29) August 6, 2021
And:
It is absolutely inexcusable that Walensky has not been fired and irresponsible for news organizations to continue to have her on without actual health experts that can correct her alarmist anti-vaccine nonsense in real time. https://t.co/2eFUmmAqzS
— AG (@AGHamilton29) August 6, 2021
It’s obvious that Walensky and the admin have adopted a strategy of misinforming the public and downplaying vaccine efficacy to justify their masking recommendations. Lying to the public in those positions is unacceptable and indefensible.

Update 2
Walensky really, really needs to clean this up:
New research out of ICL has found fully vaccinated individuals are 3x LESS likely to test positive for SARS-CoV-2 than unvaccinated individuals AND are LESS likely to pass the virus on to others, due to having a smaller viral load on average and therefore shedding LESS virus.

YES, this study pertains to Delta! Read more here: https://t.co/5f2whbm7Un Study can be found here: https://t.co/z2QeQn6xLN

Full vaccination HALVES the transmission of Delta. “Effectiveness estimates always decrease as researchers include less serious disease. Vaccination remains HIGHLY effective against Delta,” said Imperial’s Paul Elliott, co-leader of the project.” https://t.co/k98xIW20cF
