You'd think that the field of "journalism" would be filled with people who are skeptical of claims from the government and who dig in to find out what's really going on. These days there are a lot of hacks working in the media who seem to consider it their job to discredit those who are actually using a magnifying glass to examine what goes on in the government. In short, "journalism" is to a large degree being a stenographer for the DNC.
One of those people is Washington Post writer Philip Bump. You might remember him best from denying there was any evidence of a Joe Biden connection to his family's influence-peddling business while claiming the laptop story was a big nothing-burger. Miranda Devine wrote about that in the New York Post back in 2023:
Bump, who could be a minor character in Evelyn Waugh’s classic satirical novel about journalism, “Scoop,” has been wrong on almost every aspect of the Hunter Biden laptop saga, just as Bump was on the Russia hoax and the Donald Trump “photo op” controversy in Lafayette Park in DC.
For instance, when every other media organization finally admitted that Hunter Biden’s laptop was real, Bump clung to his story that “the laptop was seeded by Russian intelligence.”
As George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley points out, Bump spreads “false stories” and then refuses to accept the facts even after he’s been proven to be spectacularly wrong.
He never has apologized, nor has the Washington Post issued a correction or reassessed whether Bump needs remedial editing.
Bump is now doing the same thing, except with Trump, Musk and DOGE finding countless examples (so far) of government waste of taxpayer dollars while of course not being curious in the least as to where the money actually ended up. This headline makes it clear that Bump doesn't think DOGE has yet found any evidence of fraud in the government and that the whole effort is a big con:
🤡Old Philip Bump: There's no evidence Joe Biden played any role in Hunter's influence peddling scheme.

The replies to this one are, of course, locked for this post:
Musk has been no more successful at finding fraud than Pam Bondi was at revealing new Epstein details. But his effort at riding the enthusiasm of the base has advantages hers lacked. https://t.co/Rl374rj7ja

Then again, that's coming from the WaPo writer who wouldn't have considered there to be any evidence of Biden family corruption even if "for peddling influence" had been written in the memo section of the check.
The media has actually convinced its audience that @DOGE is all a ruse and no real savings will result.

It's quite remarkable.
Comments blocked since Bump is a typical left wing activist masquerading as a “journalist” — laughable. https://t.co/MLOJ46rDZd

I always love those kinds of "everybody knows that to be the case" takes from people who then lock the replies so they're not exposed to any evidence to the contrary. But so far it looks like Jeff Bezos' new op-ed rules might exempt Bump.
