WH's Reported 'Damage Control Plan' for Defending Biden's Fitness for Office Is a Real Shocker

AP Photo/Matt Rourke

This week a special counsel report was released regarding the care with which Joe Biden stored classified documents in his garage.

Biden had a personal SCIF right next to his Corvette:

Combine that with the fact that Biden's drug-addled son was frequently at the house and what could possibly have gone wrong?

Then came the other element to the report, which is that the special counsel found Biden to be short of a few marbles upstairs -- so lacking in marbles that it was deemed that Biden would face no charges because a jury would assume he was a confused old man who didn't realize what he was doing. But apparently Joe's still perfectly fine to remain the president (he's not running the show anyway).

What's the White House's reported strategy to deal with the release of the Hur report?

You guessed it -- attack the messenger (who recommended no charges against Biden). The smear jobs in the coming days and weeks are sure to be shameless festivals of gaslighting. In short, very on-brand for this administration:

"Attack the messenger" was not an unexpected response from Team Biden.

Basically it sounds to me like this conversation took place at the White House recently:

"How can we fight back against claims Biden has dementia?"

"Have him angrily lash out like people with dementia often do?"

"Perfect... GO!"

Attacking a special counsel is not a "threat to democracy" just this one time

  • Biden wants to convince supporters and potential supporters that the embarrassing revelations of an investigation are not on the level.
  • Biden advisers argue that Hur's decision to offer a damning personal assessment of the president deviated from Department of Justice standards.
  • Some legal experts, however, contended that Hur detailed Biden's memory lapses to explain why he didn't charge the president for mishandling classified documents.

If I were the special counsel I'd come out now and say, "fine, Biden's memory and cognition are fantastic, so therefore I will recommend criminal charges."
