For the first time ever, Serena Williams has been ousted in the first round of a Grand Slam. The No. 111th ranked player in the world, Virginie Razzano, needed just 23-minutes to close out one of the biggest tennis upsets in recent memory.

It took 8 match points but Virginie Razzano finally KO'd Serena Williams in 1st round of French Open. First 1st-round Slam loss ever for SW.

Serena Williams getting knocked out of the French Open really caught me off guard…. I didn't even know the French Open was happening.

Maybe the bigger story shouldn’t be Serena’s loss, but rather Virginie Razzano’s win. Not long ago the Frenchwoman lost her Fiance to a brain tumor.
Congrats — and credit — to Virginie Razzano. Fiancé and former coach Stéphane Vidal died of brain tumor days before 2011 French Open. #RG12

Congratulations Virginie Razzano whose fiance and coach died on the 16th May last year-a fitting tribute.

I'm a #tennis player/fan, & I don't remember hearing Virginie Razzano's fiance had died last year. Today can be a new, great memory.

If Serena was going to lose to anyone, we’re sure she’s glad it was to Virginie Razzano. She deserves all the good-fortune she gets.
