I've said before that I'm a reluctant atheist. Not the kind of jerk atheist like Richard Dawkins who puts down believers, but just someone who doesn't believe but would really like to. I'd love to be the sort of person with a "Too Blessed to Be Stressed" bumper sticker on my car. That doesn't mean I don't pray, though. My wife had a pretty horrific surgical procedure done on Tuesday and asked that I pray for her, so of course I did.
Even I'm offended at all of the hot takes about prayer after the Catholic school shooting on Wednesday. Jen Pskai was probably the worst, with her post that "Prayer does not bring these kids back. Enough with the thoughts and prayers." Another standout was Gen Z congressman Maxwell Frost, who posted, "These children were probably praying when they were shot to death at catholic school. Don’t give us your f@cking thoughts and prayers."
Why not? Why so hostile? Frost blamed the shooting on Trump shutting down the Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Don't give me your f@cking Office of Gun Violence and Protection … how many lives did it actually save?
Gov. Gavin Newsom apparently follows serial fabulist Aaron Rupar, who posted a clip from Karoline Leavitt from Thursday:
Karoline Leavitt: "I saw the comments of Ms. Psaki and frankly I think they're incredibly insensitive and disrespectful to the tens of millions of Americans of faith across this country who believe in the power of prayer, who believe that prayer works." pic.twitter.com/oVL3I52MHe

These children were literally praying as they got shot at. https://t.co/H7RGZhCTFc
— Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) August 28, 2025
Why would Newsom feel compelled to post that? Because he's … well, he's something I can't say here.
Again, even I know that that's not how prayer works. You don't pray for what you want — you pray for divine guidance and that God's will be done.
So when did you go from finding prayer to be "inspiring" to mocking children who were killed while praying? https://t.co/Nb8dI2EYgH

Great catch.
Go on, keep mocking prayer. See how that plays out for your presidential ambitions.

You’re evil
— Libs of TikTok (@libsoftiktok) August 28, 2025
Sneering at children being shot in church. Perfectly on brand for the man who defends illegal child slave labor on marijuana farms.
— DataRepublican (small r) (@DataRepublican) August 28, 2025
We get it, you hate Christians.
— LifeNews.com (@LifeNewsHQ) August 28, 2025
And you’re mocking their final moments in order to profit politically.
— Paul A. Szypula 🇺🇸 (@Bubblebathgirl) August 28, 2025
You are a terrible person, Gavin.
Absolutely the worst.
Is this you? pic.twitter.com/HXhzGEpZmk

Thoughts and prayers weren't going to bring those children back, governor.
The internet is forever, and this post ended your presidential campaign
— Vince Langman (@LangmanVince) August 28, 2025
Democrats mock prayer.
— Cryptid Politics 🇺🇸🐊 (@CryptidPolitics) August 28, 2025
Democrats mock God.
Democrats despise Christians.
I still remember writing a post about Democrats booing God at their convention.
Wow, it’s like you’ve all collectively decided to expose yourselves as the anti-Christian bigots you really are. Good job. 👏
— Thor Odinson (@Thor_Odinson) August 28, 2025
Wow you two have a lot in common pic.twitter.com/l3sEdFNrKB
— Sam Rogers (@RealSamRogers) August 28, 2025
Your comment betrays a profound misunderstanding of prayer.
— Chuck DeVore (@ChuckDeVore) August 28, 2025
Absolutely. I picked up a thing or two from Sunday School and Vacation Bible Camp.
You’re a piece of shit
— Enguerrand VII de Coucy (@ingelramdecoucy) August 28, 2025
Here's hoping this post comes back to haunt Newsom during his 2028 campaign.
By the way, listen to the liberal heads exploding after reading this from DHS:
Pray without ceasing.
— Homeland Security (@DHSgov) August 28, 2025
Crazy people are mad about this. This isn’t imposition of religion or theocracy. It’s faithful Christians in positions of power, living freely as Christians, setting a good example, and strengthening of our culture. This is what America should be, and we should want more of it. https://t.co/pR3258sZ9K
